Problem now seems solved.
My understanding so far from Roy's tutorial, is that to load profiles you should do this from applications/QuadtoneRIP/Profiles, by either creating a "source" folder or using a pre-existing one and clicking on Installxxxx.command, within the folder. This would automatically do whatever it does and either install the profiles in a pre-existing "destination" folder in HD/Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone, or create a new folder for the profiles (for instance if you were setting up a folder with ink set name).
After several attempts I was having problems trying to set up with a "source" folder with the name 1400-UT14 or trying to use 1400-MIS, even with the printer set up with these names. I then set the printer up as Quad1400 and installed using Install1400.command from a folder named 1400, which worked up to a point. I could now access curves for Claria-2880, which already exist in the Quad1400 "destination" folder, but the UT14 profiles did not get through. A couple of alerts were showing up such as "Unable to create curve folder /Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/Quad1400".
I then tried copying the UT14 profiles directly into HD/Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/1400, but could not access the curves through print from Elements. So the next thing I tried was re-installing the curves from applications, this worked.
It appears that there is a problem when the installxxxx.command is trying to access the library to place the profiles in a "destination" folder. It only works if you copy the profiles into the library folder before installing from applications. I can't find anything in system preferences which might overcome this.
If anyone else is having similar issues, this is the procedure I used;
Connect to the printer with a USB cable, don't use wireless access. In System preferences/Print and Scan, with the 1500 (1430) installed normally, click the + to add printer, in the dialogue box highlight "Epson Stylus Photo 1500 (kind)USB", in name field type "Quad1400", in "use" field highlight "select printer software" and find QuadtoneRIP 2.7 Epson 1400, click OK and then Add. (I can't be sure if using bonjour will work just as well as I didn't get that far).
Next, create a folder in applications/QuadtoneRIP/Profiles called "1400" and place any profiles in here, the ones I had were *****.quad. Also drag the Install1400.command into this folder from InstallScripts folder. Copy the profiles into HD/Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/Quad1400
Back at applications/QuadtoneRIP/Profiles/1400 double click Install1400.command and it should all work. I assume this will also work with the Artisan 1430.
If anyone with better understanding can see any flaws, errors or other idiocies in this approach, please make comments.
