All the QTR profiles, gray and RGB, are installed in the same default location. But Photoshop only sees the RGB versions. My files are grayscale, gamma 2.2. I've been printing with the corresponding rgb profiles. It's been working, but I don't know it's working optimally. A continuous tone scale from 100% to 0% black showed a bit of banding in the shadows. I tried reinstalling QTR. No difference. Thoughts?

Paul A bit more information may help get an answer; Are you using PC or Mac? Operating system version? Have you installed your own profiles or are you looking for those pre-installed in QTR? Which printer are you using? regards Ross --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "paulraphaelson" wrote:

This is a design feature of Photoshop confirmed by Chris Cox resident Adobe Photoshop guru. This issue was raised on the Adobe Photoshop forum the response from Adobe was "customers getting confused with profiles". So Greyscale profiles will never show up in Photoshop - it looks into the profile to see the color space and if the header contains greyscale will not be displayed. This along with CYMK profiles will also not be displayed in Lightroom L My solution to this is to print from Qimage - not much help to Mac users. Maybe a workaround is for the profile creator to not have greyscale in the header but have RGB and fool photoshop. Mike

Paul, et al, You can use the Wide Gamut RGB profile - it's based off gamma 2.2 and will give the same results as using Gray Gamma 2.2. If you purchase and use Roy's QTR-Print-Tool, color management with QTR is definitely simplified and you'll get more accurate results than printing through Photoshop. I don't have a link to the original thread, but it's been discussed before on the message board. Sure ... Photoshop CS6, Mac OSX 10.6.8 I'm talking about the generic profiles that come wtih the QTR install. Printer is an Epson 3880. Thank you! --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "rossfmj" wrote:

Paul, In your original post only the RGB profiles show up in the list. The Gray_Matte_Paper.icc and Gray_Photo_Paper.icc won't show up because their space is gray. If you find the .icc files in Finder and open them with ColorSync, you'll see what I'm talking about. Those, and any other profiles that aren't tagged as RGB profiles will not show when printing in Photoshop. Hence, you can use the Wide Gamut RGB profile as it's built using a gamma of 2.2 just like the gray profiles you're looking for. You can also use the QTR-Print-Tool to use the profiles Photoshop won't list as it doesn't place restrictions on the profiles as the Adobe applications do.
