Epson photo 1500w (same as artisan 1430) carts not recognised.

Epson photo 1500w (same as artisan 1430) carts not recognised.

2014-04-11 by <ross.jarvis@...>

I have taken out the MIS cartridges I was using and replaced with a spare complete set from MIS to run colour printing. The machine is showing orange printer empty lights and the printer dialogue is now saying it does not recognise the cartridges apart from black. I swapped the chips from a couple of the carts with those from the ones which had been working but still the dialogue says the carts are not recognised. I'm thinking this may be down to a firmware update I wasn't aware of. Has anyone else had this issue? Anyone know if it's possible to reset the printer firmware to the original factory setting?

I have uninstalled the printer driver and re-installed from disc, without connecting to the internet to get an original driver, but this has not solved the problem. I need to have some colour prints done by Monday and can't get to anywhere that sells original carts and I'd rather not throw out my complete set of MIS carts, ink, B&W ink and spare carts.

Be sure all of the chips are the same version. I';ve had this happen when I mix different version numbers.

Thanks Paul

All the chips are v 6.0. MIS now sell carts with v6.3. So maybe the firmware update has caused a problem with the older chips. Interestingly enough, I can get all the carts to be accepted individually apart from when I put the black in.
It was running fine with UT14 set in MIS carts until the point at which I swapped in the OEM colour carts and found a couple were running out and then showed as empty. It seemed to accept the MIS carts as I replaced these individually, until the black ran out.

I'm wondering if upgrading the chips would solve the issue, however being in the UK I can't find any local supplies and can't see them on Ink Supply. (plus I doubt whether I could get them by the end of today :-{

I had a similar problem when I wanted to use the Eboni-6 inkset in my newly refurbed 1400. The MIS prefilled carts were version 6.3 and were not recognized. MIS sent me another set, these were not recognized either. Finally, they said a new shipment of 6.3 carts were coming in, and these worked. In the meantime, I had ordered a set of carts from Jon Cone, and these were recognized also. These are a "special edition" of 6.0 that can be manually reset - I much prefer that feature. Jon said he worked directly with the Chinese supplier to furnish carts with this feature.

I still have the 6.3 carts that were recognized, if you're interested I could sell you these. Like I say, I like the ones from Jon Cone because I can reset them. My 6.3 carts are empty and I've taped the outlet port to prevent drying. But really, MIS should send the "new" version of 6.3's.

Hope this helps.

Hello Homer!

As far as I can tell, they're accurate. This 1400 seems to use very little ink, so I've not had to refill them yet. I hesitate to pull them again to see, but I'm due for a refill soon. According to the Epson graph, the yellow will need refilling very soon - oddly, the black seems to have hardly gone done. The other carts are in between.

By the way, I didn't mention the 6.0 carts you sold me, and of course they were recognized - I didn't mention them because I assume they're no longer available (except for the special edition 6.0's I got from Jon Cole.) But I do thank you for stepping in with a solution when my 6.3's were not being recognized. I'm glad to have your 6.0's as a backup.

I'll let you when I refill my Cone carts

Regards,

Paul

Might I chime in Homer?

In my experience on the 2880 the Cone cartridges do indeed provide an accurate indication of the ink levels. Of course, if one refills a cart before the cart reads "empty" then one manually resets the level to full using the chip resetting tool that is available from Ink Jet Mall and elsewhere.

Do the Jon Cone re-settable cartridges give an accurate reading on their fullness?

Yes, but there is a minor problem with the R3000. If you remove a cart, say, to gently agitate it, then replace it, it \u201cmay" auto reset to read full. This is an unexplained bug, but it is actually a minor one. If you note the level before removing the cart, then find that it has auto reset to full upon reinsertion, when, in fact, it\u2019s not full, then simply remove it and fill it!

As soon as you put them back into the printer they read as full
