Measure Tool alternative

2014-11-04 by jeff.grant@...

I am just starting out with QTR. I just went to look at profile making and found that the doco talks about Measure Tool. Is that what people are using still, or is it Colorport or i1Profiler? I'm assuming that there are files around which are compatible with whatever is now being used. If so, would someone please point me at them?

Cheers,

Jeff

The Measure Tool is part of a software program called ProfileMaker 5. There is a folder called Eye-One in the QTR download package that explains the use of the Measure Tool with the Eye-One to linearize profiles. ProfileMaker 5 can not be used with MAC systems later than OS 10.6.8.

I left measure tool behind some time ago in favor of color port. Mostly because Scott Martin provided charts and reference files for it.

good stuff.

The problem with both measure tool and color port is that both are old products unrelated to current xrite products, so updates and support for continual OS evolution gets problematic.

I would go with ColorPort rather than i1 Profiler. I have been messing around with the newer i1 Profiler linearization and measurement functions for a little while this morning. It is not very straight forward (at least when compared to working with PM5 Measure Tool and the supplied step wedges and measurement files), and the output data doesn't seem to play well with the QTR linearization functions—something like the L*ab and XYZ data not separating into different tab delimited fields—it works fine if I open the i1 Profiler output data txt file in ColorLab, covert to density, and then resave the txt file. I will work on it some more to see how to get it to work for those not able to run older software or for people who have i1 pro 2 device.

Still, for the time being, I'd stick with ColorPort and the walk through linked in Tyler's response.

Thanks Sandy. I understand that . It's what will work on newer systems that I am after,

Thanks Tyler. Scott's site looks like exactly what I am after. Fortunately, I still have an i1Pro sitting around so that won't be an issue.

Thanks Richard. I'd like to hear how you go with Profiler. Using it would be my preference over Colorport. It's a pity that so much of Profiler remains a mystery.
