Digi Negatives printing too heavy and grainy

Digi Negatives printing too heavy and grainy

2015-08-09 by andy8x10@...

Have been using QTR on my Epson 4000 for a few years without issue. Suddenly negatives are printing extremely dark and very grainy. For the past week I've been trying to get to the bottom of it, but not successful. For the heck of it, I decided to print out an Ink Pattern Page and it came out terrible. I've attached an example in the Files section. Not sure what could be causing this, but whatever it is, it could be the reason why my negs look terrible. I'm using OSX 10.8.5 and PS 5. Any ideas?

Andy,

Looks like your software is applying some type of color management to the Ink Separation Page. I struggled for years with Adobe Photoshop and Mac to print with No Color Management and it is essentially difficult or impossible after CS3. My advice would be to purchase the Print Tool, which makes calibration of your digital negatives very easy by assuring that you can always print with No Color Management. The Print Tool has other nice features as well and is a great bargain for the price.

Print Tool did not solve the issue. Still very dark and grainy. I've also printed through CS3. No improvement. I was printing fine with CS5. It just suddenly happened. I've been struggling at this for over a week now. It's got to be something with the printer itself. But what? Depressing…
