Another week, another problem. With QTR?

Another week, another problem. With QTR?

2015-09-07 by jp432r@...

I have been working to make enlarged negatives to contact print into carbon prints.

I am using QTR to print the negatives using an Epson Stylus Photo R3000 on Pictorico Ultra Premium OHP Transparency Film.

The final remaining problem is any evenly toned area, like sky or smooth water has fine, but regular diagonal density variations in it.

Changing the QTR printing resolution and speed have no effect that I can see.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution?

You didn't mention what inkset and curve creation method you are using with QTR? Epson inks? All black inset? This could be an issue with your ink profile... or clogged printer head.

Greg.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there more than one way to create curves? If so, I don't know of any but using the curve creation tool in QTR which is how I did mine. I once tried editing a qidf file in a text editor, but that was long ago and the curve I'm using now was made in the QTR utility.
Using the K3 inkset.
I find no clogged jets when I run the Epson utility. Is there anywhere else I might look?

So... please expand on what an "ink profile" is, where I look to change or adjust it, and what I should look for.

Thanks,

JeffR

There are many ways of creating profiles for printing digital negatives. If you are interested you can find a profile for carbon printing in the Files section of the Yahoo forum on carbon printing. It is not the profile I currently use since this one uses the Epson K3 ink set and I have personally switched to an all gray ink set. However, I know several carbon printers who are currently using the profile, and making good prints.

Yes, you should be using the curve creation tool... I am using the word profile interchangeably with curve I guess. If you are using the K3 inkset I would try the curve/profile that Sandy King referenced and see if you have the same issues... There are also tutorials for building your own curves with the K3 inkset on the websites of Ron Reeder and Clay Harmon.
