R2000 loses QTR

R2000 loses QTR

2015-09-07 by jeff.grant@...

I have had my R2000 installed for a few days running QTR. It has been working beautifully. It is connected as a Bonjour printer on an Airport Express. I am using Print Tool 1.1.0, QTR 2.7.6 now and 2.7.5 when this started. I am running OS X 10.9.5

In System Preferences, instead of showing QTR next to Kind it is blank. If I go to Page Setup in Print Tool, the only paper size is 'Item 1'. The install script shows no error. I have deleted and reinstalled the real printer and the QTR printer but it doesn't change.

I've tried ethernet, direct USB, and Airport USB but it's still the same. The Kind field is blank. My other quad printers are fine

Jeff,
When I had this problem a week ago, I had been making new profiles for my 3880. BTW I'm on a Mac. The last profile I installed had a problem and that caused QTR to not work. The solution was to delete the quad 3880 printer and also delete the .txt file and the corresponding .quad file for the last profile I tried to install. Then I went to the profile folder, then the quad 3880-UC folder, then click on install 3880.command. That procedure solved my problem, the quad printer was installed again, and QTR worked through Print Tool like before.
Not sure why my last profile was bad and would not install, maybe I had an extra space someplace.

Doug,

Many thanks. That fixed it. I'm up and running again. I was adding new curves too for the new R2000, having abandoned the 3880 as a PZ printer. I'm really looking forward to actually printing.

I should have known back in 1968 when I was a trainee programmer learning IBM /360 assembler that it would help me almost 50 years later. Trying to work out what went wrong with my curve creation, I noticed that I had used quiet long names. 32 was one of the magic numbers back in 1968, so I reduced the file names to under 32 and it worked. It would appear that verbosity can be a curse.
