Print-Tool No Curves Displayed

Print-Tool No Curves Displayed

2017-01-22 by jerry dungan

In Print-Tool 1.1.0 on OSX 10.6.8 I have installed a 1430 as a quad printer without any issues. When in Print-Tool and selecting the the Quad 1430 printer and then the QuadtoneRip via Layout all of the profiles display in the Curve window as expected. The 1430 also has a small USB logo next to it the 'Printer' group window.

Problem now is with the R1800. Installed the driver download from Epson as I do not have the original install disc.Set up and installed all profiles in QuadToneRIP and installed as a Quad printer in Preferences, same steps as with the 1430.

But, when in Print-Tool, cannot see any of the profiles in the curve windows under QTR for the r1800. The printer location is 'Direct USB Printer' as is the 1430. It may be of no matter, but that small logo, that should be to the left of the Quad 1800 in the printer group window is missing as well.

I can see all of the profiles in the Application/Library//Quad/Quad1800 to confirm they were installed, but simply cannot access them in Print-Tool.

Probably am missing the obvious, and did look through the group archives I have before sending this bothersome query out to members, but made no progress in the archives, Print-tool manual or even in Googleland on solving this one.

Clues would as always be most appreciated

Jerry

Did you quite and re-start Print Tool after running the Install command for the R1800? And then make sure you have the Quad1800 chosen as your printer, not the Epson Stylo Photo 1800.

I can see all of the profiles in the Application/Library//Quad/Quad1800 to confirm they were installed, but simply cannot access them in Print-Tool.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Print-Tool No Curves Displayed

A couple things:

"Application/Library//Quad/Quad1800" doesn't make any sense.

The printer is R1800 not 1800 so printer name should be QuadR1800.
The "R" and "P" on printer models is important -- some numbers are reused by Epson.

If you created printer in preferences (not the usual recommended way)
you still need to run an InstallR1800.command script to install curves for the printer.
The printer name and script name must match.

Just using script creates printer and installs curves thus making sure you have the correct names.

Thanks again for the time taken of sending me advice on clearing the issue.

I went back through the set up again.

The initial install of the r1800 was via the download of the Epson driver.

From there set up the printer in Preferences so it would use the QuadToneRIP 2.7.7 Epson R1800 driver.

Checked and confirmed the install command line name is identical to the printer name (R1800-3MK). Ran the install command and at the end of the install, see the line, "Finished installing curves for R1800-3MK'.

Confirmed in Applications\Library\Printers\Quadtone\QuadR1800-3MK was listed and all files were there.

At Print-Tool the R1800-3MK is listed in the printer window and opening via Layout gives the QuadToneRIP option. Selecting that opens up the window for all of the QuadTone printing configurations. Except when selecting in Curves --'None' is checked.

The R1800 prints just fine in Print-Tool as a regular R1800 printer selecting 'Application Managed' workflow. Quitting Print-Tool and restarting did not make any headway on this. Also, ran the same curve in Windows QTR without any problems on the R1800, but do in the end prefer running via OSX.

Apologies in my earlier message I abbreviated some of the steps in the set up.

You sure you are not confusing 2 printer names?
Some places you say QuadR1800-3MK and others R1800-3MK.
Using the Sys Preferences and the Epson driver can make this an
easy mistake. I'd delete all the printers and just run the install.

When you run the install script it should show this whole thing:

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Print-Tool No Curves Displayed

2017-01-23 by jerry dungan

Apologies for this ongoing a bit more than I initially imagined and taking time away from things of much more of interest to the members. But to persevere,

Followed the directions , 1. deleted the R1800-3MK printer in Preferences and, 2. deleted the folder in the Library\Printers\QTR\quadtone\QuadR1800-3MK.

Ran the install script in Applications\QuadToneRIP\Profiles\R1800-3MK. the install line is, 'InstallR1800-3MK.command

Running that, displays the beginning line as 'Creating printer named: QuadR1800-3MK as Direct USB Printer'. Then a scrolling display for 'Creating Curve' with all the profile names exactly as you listed them. At the end of the curve creation routine is displayed, 'Finished Installing Curves for QuadR1800-3MK'.

I now have the QuadR1800-3MK printer listed in Preferences and in Print-Tool and have the profiles in -Library\Printers\QTR\quadtone\QuadR1800-3MK. All looks like an expected outcome.

But in opening Print-Tool 'Layout' , QuadToneRip is not listed in the drop down. Checking in Preferences, the driver the 'QuadToneRIP 2.7.7 Epson R1800 is missing from the QuadR1800-3MK installed via running the script command.

Attempting to add that driver, (via Preferences - 'Options & Supplies), would not allow for the QuadTonRip option in Print-Tool for the QuadR1800-3MK. Only when adding the QuadR1800-3MK printer in Preferences and selecting for the QTR 2.7.7 driver did the QuadToneRIP option display in the drop down. But, most unfortunately, in checking for curves, only have the persistent 'none' displayed again.

I'm beginning to consider there is some link to the QTR 2.7.7 driver, that while displayed after manually adding the printer, is missing when Print-Tool looks for it. But then I'm just guessing in the dark.

My appreciation as always

Jerry

Jerry,

When you open Print Tool you should see at the very top right of the screen a drop-down box that says PRINTER. You should use the Drop Down menu and select QuadR1800. Now click in the box to the right, PRINT, and a second screen will open. On this page make sure printer is set to QuadR1800, Layout is set to QuadToneRIP, Mode is set to Quad Tone RIP (8 or 16 bit), or Calibration. Now you should be able to choose your Curve, Paper Feed, Printer Resolution and Speed.

If this does not work for you it is possible that you have installed more than one QuadToneRIP application folder in either you system hard drive, or on another drive, and the Print Tool is somehow linking to the wrong one.

Hi Jerry

I don't see anything in particular that you are doing differently.
You indicate version 2.7.7 -- have you had previous versions on this computer?

Are you using the QTR driver download exactly as is? Or are you making profiles,
or got some profiles somewhere else?
Are you sure no error messages are coming out during the InstallR1800-3MK ?
Maybe you should copy all the text and email to me. A bad profile can mess
up the .ppd file which links all the OSX print stuff together.

Also run the DiagnosticScript.command -- copy & paste all the text from that and
email it.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Print-Tool No Curves Displayed

2017-01-24 by jerry dungan

Hi Roy/Sandy,

I just removed all QTR files and folders with the dmg for that and installed the 2.7.6 instead of the 2.7.7 as I thought it best to start with as clean an install as possible as suggested in the last reply from Sandy and 2.7.6 seems better for the 10.6.8 I have. I checked in Preferences and Print-Tool and confirmed all the Quad printers were no longer listed. Before the 2.7.6, install, went through all of backup locations and cleared out any QTR folders.

On install of 2.7.6, ran the script to install the 1430-MIS . Worked perfect, listing it in Preferences and Print-Tool as the Quad1430-MIS. In Print-Tool all of the profiles displayed in the QuadtoneRIP drop down. Next ran the install script for the R1800-3MK. All messages scrolled through with confirmations for creating curves and the Quad printer as before. The new QuadR1800-3MK was listed in Preferences as well as Print-Tool. But, the persistent issue with no curves displayed in the QuadToneRIP window for curve selectionfor the QuadR1800-3MK remained.

Next ran install script for R1800. Installed with messages as above for curve creation and new QuadR1800 printer. The new QuadR1800 was listed in Preferences and Print-Tool as QuadR1800 exactly as it should. However, this time, in the Print-Tool QuadToneRIP drop down section, all of the curves did in fact display correctly.

To puzzle this out, in Preferences discovered the Quad1430-MIS and QuadR1800 printers created by the scripting routine listed their respective 2.7.6 Epson drivers, but for the R1800-3MK no driver was listed. Even manually entering that driver back in did not allow for the curves listed for the the R1800-3MK to display in Print-Tool. Seems to point to the missing driver for the R1800-3MK at the root of the problem.

And to make this even more curious, I copied all of the R1800-3MK profiles straight into the R1800 folder and installed. No error alerts during that routine. Back at Print-Tool, checking on the R1800 with the R1800-3MK profiles, same original problem with no profiles displayed at all.

My work around has been to delete the 3MK-prefix from all the profiles copied from the R1800-3MK into the R1800 folder. After running the InstallR1800.command script again, all of those profiles are displayed as they should in the QuadToneRIP drop down in Print-Tool.

Thanks and my appreciation once again to Roy and Sandy for taking their time to read through my long winded descriptions, and offering their sage advice. I'm afraid this dialog has probably bored the other members to tears, but this local little puzzle has turned out quite well now.

Per your request I've attached the information which displays when installing the R1800-3MK profiles. Also the information from running the diagnostic command immediately after running the Install R1800-3MK.command. While the work around is useful, that doesn't help with solving the original puzzle. I am not a Mac user, so this is a stab in the dark, but I have read reports of Mac users who have run into difficulties with profile availability because they inadvertently installed the Airprint driver rather the normal one. Could that be a factor here?

Roy,

Definitely attached the scripts on this reply. As there was no issue with the R1800-3MK install on the other Snow Leopard, obviously it's a bug in my system, so I'll will stay with my work around and get back to printing. I really appreciate your time and efforts, and Sandy's as well.

Roy,

Definitely attached the scripts on this reply. As there was no issue with the R1800-3MK install on the other Snow Leopard, obviously it's a bug in my system, so I'll will stay with my work around and get back to printing. I really appreciate your time and efforts, and Sandy's as well.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
