Using two identical MK or PK inks

I remember seeing this conversation some months back but cannot find it by searching the forum. I'm hoping someone can give me a link.
It concerned have two slots with the same MK (might have been PK) inks, and having the second one follow the curve of the first one, I think, and somehow achieving a deeper black.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
This might have been in the Digital B&W group, so I will post this there, too.
