Need a new print 9890 print head, should I buy a new printer ?

Hi everyone,

I'm debating replacing the head in my 9890 and converting it to Piezography Pro. It has been replaced 4 times and every time it has been the CYAN channel that gets clogged - I've never had a bad nozzle check on any other color. Now that it's out of warranty I'm hesitant on dumping another $2000 into it...

Is it true that the Piezography inks are less prone to clogging than the Epson inks ?

I'm used to getting great black density on matte paper with the Epson inks with Epson Hot Press papers using QTR - in the 1.78 density range. I've seen older matte Piezography prints that were too 'flat' to my liking and was wondering how the new Pro Inks compare. Are they even better than what I was achieving with my Epson ink ?

The other route would be to spend the money on a new surecolor P9000 instead , but the inkjetmall website states that US printer models aren't supported. However PiezoDN says the US printer WILL work, so which is it ?

Do the Piezography Pro inks look any different on one printer vs the other ? My only hesitation is spending 2000 on a fix that may not be very permanent, and that if I print gloss I'll have all the problems with the gloss optimizer with the 9890.

Your advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated !

Paul
