QTR ink descriptor file - definition of items...

2018-05-14 by davidswinnard@...

My brain is convinced that somewhere in the past I read a very good description of the various items included in the ink descriptor file from which the .quad files are generated. I have been bothering the Google system for quite a while now trying to find it again...to no avail.

I was reluctant to post asking about this, but finally decided to.

Does anybody have such a description they can point me to? (I'm just trying to better understand the whys and hows what I'm seeing.)

I don’t know why you’d be reluctant to post that question here. This should be the best place to get such information on the subject. I hope someone has it, as I too have been craving the same in depth insight.. But, to date, trying to get it has been similar to pulling teeth. I wish I had the answers. But alas, I join with you in the search.

Maybe you read Ron Reeder's "The Quadtone RIP Manual: Using QTR to Make Digital Negatives" that contains such descriptions.
Not sure where to download it from now.
Good luck.

Thank you for that. I’ll search for it, too.

Thanks for jogging my memory Srefan. Yes, Reeder & Hinkel's Digital Negative book...thanks. I just checked my copy (after a few minutes trying to locate it) and the various "GRAY_" variables are discussed rather well.

I have version 3 of Reeder's PDF (dated March 2009) too - found it on a backup drive. It also has some descriptions of the ink description file as well.

I started making a page with all sorts of QTR information that I have written over the years. This page below is one made from the instructions included with one of my QTR profiling tools, and goes into some greater detail that some other things that are out there.
