Demo - QuadToneProfiler-Quick Curve-DN

I've downloaded the demo, but I'm frankly lost at the point where it talks about "Printing the Linearization Target.

Now, I own Quad Tone Rip and Print Tool, but I have only used it a few times when I found out it wasn't playing nice with the P800 (I understand that is fixed). So I don't know much. This utility I was hoping would simplify things, but I guess you still need an understanding of the QTR Basics.

Is there a resource/document or something that would give me a quick overview of the parts missing in the instructions for QuadToneProfiler-Quick Curve-DN? Yes, I am looking for a shortcut, particularly for reading the values from a scanner and creating a text file for these programs.

Thanks.

Using my app does assume some basic QTR experience, but the instructions does go through the curve installation and printing the targets. I am planning on making a series of instructional videos tomorrow that goes through all the steps in more detail, including different measurement workflows.

If you are using a flatbed scanner to get the measurements from the 21-step target, I would recommend looking at the QTR Stepwedge Tool. It is a Photoshop plugin that does a really good job of getting pretty accurate readings from the scan. Here is a direct link to it on the Roy's QTR downloads page: QTR-StepWedge-Tool.zip

You will want to get Data Tool also. It is good for smoothing and saving the data in an easy to use format. (although the latest update of my app does have its own data smoothing controls). The stepwedge tool does have its own instructions included in the zip so I didn't write additional ones for it (but I will cover it in a separate video).
Hope that helps,

Hi Richard,

I am interested in your QuadToneProfiler-QuickCurve-DN app to print negatives for Pt-PD but also for Silver prints.

I see that one can only select a Standard Starter Curve, to be modified with the Main Blocking Density slider.
Is this curve appropriate for all photographic processes?
Thanks,
Alex

The shape of the generic starter curve makes it really flexible. It was based around a Palladium/NA2 mix, but an I have used it for everything from cyanotype to graded silver chloride contact paper.

I am working on an update with new starter curves and instructions for use with Multigrade IV (as well as some other new features).

The trouble with using it on variable contrast papers now is the way the yellow ink lowers contrast as more is used. I'm testing new ways of blending the inks for less perceptible dots in the midtones and highlights, and should have that finished up on Friday.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for your answer Richard.
I am very interested in the next update, because at the moment I am printing on Ilford Multigrade paper.
