BO with QTR - is it possible?

BO with QTR - is it possible?

2005-12-01 by fitness2health

My prints on a 1270 using Eboni Black Only have a loss of shadow detail
compared to the MIS UTS-FN inkset using Paul Roark curves. I have also
printed BO on a R200 and there is even more loss of detail.

Is there a way to control shadow detail when BO through
brightness/contrast?

I it possible to control shadow detail printing black only with QTR,
and if so what is the setup?

thanks in advance

There is an excellent contributor to the Blackandwhitetheprint list, Clayton
Jones, who has a lot of information on BO printing on his web site. That's
definitely worth a read. You certainly can do BO printing without QTR.
However, if you want to use QTR to create a BO curve, you can. My set of
curves for the 2200/UT7/Premier FineArt paper include a BO2K curve that does
just that. It's not for your printer, but would serve as an example.

I created the BO2K curve as an experiment to see if I would like the result.
It was OK, but I preferred the greater degree of control (for me anyway) of
the usual cool/warm mix.

Tom,

thanks for the guidance

When I try and open your curve in QTR, I get the following File Errors
Error in Ink Descriptiom at Line:23->"LIMIT_LK="
Error in Ink Descriptiom at Line:27->"GRAY_INK_2_LK"
 any idea why?

Keith

Keith

The curve is for the 2200 printer, so it will only serve as an example. It
is likely you have not selected a 2200 Printing Model when you loaded the
curve into QTR. Since you have, as I recall, a 1280 printer, and likely have
that Printing Model selected, the reference to LK ink will not be valid.
