Greetings from a newbie, and question!

Hello everybody, I've just subscribed to this forum!
I'm an amateur photographer, you can see some of my pics at:
http://www.photo.net/photodb/member-photos?include=all&user_id=686910
Some of them have been published on Italian magazines.
Lately I've started being interested in B/W, and that's the reason why
yesterday I've downloaded QuadToneRIP 2.4.1 and I've installed it on
my Mac G4, OSX,10.4.5, PSCS2, Epson R800.
I've read the User's Guide but it seems to me that they are speaking
of something rather different. I can't find the application they are
speaking about! I've tried printing some photos playing with different
settings found in the "print" menĂ¹, but the result were very very pale
prints.
Is there an updated User Guide? Did I do something wrong installing
it? Can anybody help me? Thank you so much, Carlo

Hi John, I've installed "Install-QTR-2.4.1.pkg
Then the "Scripts", R800-R1800-NK7, then R800-R1800-UC
Then I've opened "CurveDesign", and I've duble cliked on "Run Install
curves". Then I didn't know very well what to do!
Did I do something wrong? Can you, by any chance, help me?
Thanks, Carlo

You did good...no need to install NK7 or use "CurveDesign" though.

Was your printer on when you installed the curves?

What do you see when you try to use QTR?

In the Print window select Printer: Quad800
In Copies & Pages there should be "QuadTone Rip"...select that.

Yes, it was on! I do select Quad800 in Print window, then QuadTone RIP
in Copies & Pages. At that point in Curve 1 & 2 I only have 3 Matte
profiles. Is that right. What should I do with the other levels?
Other question: at the step before, when the preview page appears what
should I choose in the "Printer profile"? Gray gamma 2.2, or QTR gray
matte paper?

You always select Gray Matte for matte paper and Gray Glossy for
glossy paper.

I don't have an Epson 800 printer, with my 4000, in Curves, I have 3
or 4 curves for many different paper types. I only use Enhanced Matte
at this point and I only have 4 selections. The reason you have 2
curves is so you can "blend" the output between different curves.

What you need to do is just print, print, print, print and keep
track of the settings you use each time. You'll eventually hit a
combination you like. Below Curves are options for lightening and
darkening prints in small amounts. You've got to print, print, print,
print until you're happy with the results.

There's no "magic bullet" that will get you to the perfect print the
first time (I wish there were :)

Good luck, Alan
