ink question...

ink question...

2006-05-13 by roschko_leolevin

Hi,
... yes, an other "inkquestion".
I'm looking for "my" BW ink system with Epson Stylus Pro 7600. The
last three month, I think, I did nothing else than surfing thru the
internet and looking for the perfect ink.
So, the result? I'm totally confused and have no Idea what system
would be the best for me. The entire Manufacturer say that their
system is the world best you can get.
During my web research I found 5 different Inks. Maybe there are a
couple more then 5.

Sundanse Inks (also for 7600)
GQ Generation QuadBlack (not for 7600)
Piezography K7 (for 7600)
Lyson Quad Black (not for 7600)
MIS UT7 (for 7600)

As there are some inks not available for my 7600 Epson, I think I
want to decide between the Piezography and MIS Products.

The Pro of MIS is that they are for both, Matte and Glossy Paper,
right?

Maybe somebody could help me in this decision?
Please tell me your experiences with you system, so that I can
find "my perfect BW ink" :-)

Cheers

Florian

You have limited yourself to the 2 brands that seem to have the most
fans. I use UT2. I have used Piezography products in the past and
liked them as well.
The advantage of the UT system is that it is toneable. You can print
tones from sepia to cool on any paper. Also, as you stated, UT
system can be used on glossy or matt.
I have not used the K7 system, so can't really comment, but some rave
about the tonal smoothness. The only available ink in supposed to be
neutral, so you change tones by changing paper.
It all comes down to your priorites in print making.

One atvantage of a smaller printer is that you can try different ink
sets for a fairly small investment. If you have access to a samller
printer ( I use a 1280) you could try each set. It is probably the
only way to know which is right for you.

UT2 would be my choice.Versatile & cost effective.Like you I spent a
long time researching & became totally confused.I settled on the MIS
inks. After some false starts with various Rips I tried QTR & first
print was everything I could have hoped for.Eboni black is great for
matte paper & will work on some gloss papers with minor
adjustment.Regards Pete.

If you are no photographer with Ultrachrome K3 and PhotoRag - you will
not be a photographer with any other ink/paper combination as well...
