ink on the edge of a print using the 2200 and quadtone 2.4.2

ink on the edge of a print using the 2200 and quadtone 2.4.2

2006-07-14 by Eric Smith

Hi All,

Here is the problem

I am using the latest rip on a 2200 and a macintosh, when I print
using quadtone a 9.5 by 6.5 image on letter paper and after the
complete image is done printing, the printer then spends time moving
the carriage across the page and across the entire width of the
printer many times before it ejects the paper out of the printer.
Often then I left with ink marks on the side of the paper. This does
not happen with the epson driver... any one else have this problem?
Any sort of fix?

Best

The printing is always done with many passes interleaving different jets. So what
you are describing towards the end of the image is probably just the filling in of the
bottom edge. It may not look like much is being printed.

If you are getting ink smeared at the edges of paper that probably means the paper
is not sitting flat. Curved and heavy papers can cause this, particularly at the end
of a sheet where the rollers don't have as much to grab onto.

hi Roy,

That is what is weird, it is clear that the driver thinks that there is information to be
printed, yet there cannot be. The image is exaclly 9.5 X 6.25 on enhanced matte paper
from epson, it is after the image is completed and in the last 1/4 inch of paper before the
paper is ejected is when the head make passes across the whole of the printer. Also the
epson driver does not exhibit this behavior with the exact same image.

Any more information that you need?

e.

Hi Eric,

I can't duplicate what you are describing. Are you using the Ordered dither
or something else? (It's under Printer Feature so you may not have even seen it).
Send me the full list of options used (screen capture may be best).

Roy, I have hit similar artifacts with my 1280 and UT2 inkset using
Quadtone RIP. I do use ORDERED dither. Should we try something else?

Ordered Dither is what I would recommend -- I'm just less sure of what
artifacts
may be possible with Hybrid. Are you also on a Mac? Have you upgraded
to
10.4 recently and just started seeing this? I have recently found a
small bug
in the OSX 10.4 print system and I'm concerned that there may be others.
Can be repeat the problem reliably?

I'm getting the exact same problem Eric is getting. I'm using Mac OS 10.4.8. When the
2200 reaches the final 1/4 inch, it pauses, and then the printer head starts to go from one
end to the other. If the paper is not completely flat, it will catch on the edges and wrinkle
the paper. I'm not seeing this with Epson driver.

The image quality from this driver is great. I just wish there's a way to get around this
problem.

Thanks.

John

which inks? Epson 4000

2006-10-25 by Skip Sorrentino

Hi All,

I just joined in. I am planning to dedicate my Epson 4000 to B&W
only, & plan to get the new 3800 for color.

My question is , which ink sets seem to be in favor? MIS vs
Piezograhy? I am in NEw England, so tend to like buying local.

I tend to lean toward the neutral ink sets, but wonder if anyone has
tried the SplitTone inks, from InkjetMall &/or if they actually can
be used.

Thanks All,

Skip
