How to lay down more ink

How to lay down more ink

2006-08-12 by failedthespian

I am testing inks and submitting them for light fastness testing using
the Blue Wool Scale test method. I am printing colour patches using
the QuadTone RIP; selecting an individual cartridge in the Graphical
Interface.

However, I would like to be able to increase the ink density of the
colour swatches produced by the RIP. I cannot match the density of
the ink swatches produced by the RIP to that produced by doing a
draw-down using a wrire wound K-bar. Is there a way to do this please?

Altering the paper type or DPI setting doesn't appear to make any
difference.

I apologise to members if I am being totally ignorant, as I am totally
new to this.

I would like to thank you for your help in this matter.

Though not new to it, I'm only now getting more familiar with it, but have
you tried increasing the "Ink Limit Adjustment (Shadows) setting at the
bottem left corner of QTRGui? That slider will increase (+ settings) or
decrease (- settings) the ink density laid down. See the Help files on "Ink
Limit".

I take it that you're making a profile in the GUI that lets you print
a patch with only one color, then printing a patch with that one color.

No.

The draw down bar method is only accurate if the ink is applied at
that level in actual use: i.e. a watercolor paint or printing ink. The
reason you can't match that density with your inkjet is that inkjet
printing uses less ink.

Ink protects ink in a fading test. Thicker coats fade slower than
thinner, so you don't want too much ink.

This aside, the 2880 dpi settings on QTR do lay down more ink than the
1440 dpi settings, so if you're not running 2880 yet, give it a try.

QTR pretty much ignores "paper type".

Good luck, and have fun.

OK Maris, thanks, I'll try that.

OK. That's what I feared. Thanks anyway.
