Novice posterization headaches

Novice posterization headaches

2006-09-21 by rmsinct2

I've just installed NK7 inks in my Epson 2200 and have a huge problem
with posterization in mid-tone areas, though my shadows and highlights
show good detail. There is no distiction in tones from about a level
of 162 to 192. I did a nozzle check with my Epson inks before making
the switch and the patterns were all fine. When I repeated it with the
NK7 inks the area that would normally be yellow is very pale, but
visible. The light magenta slot is slightly less pale, but the magenta
location shows no visible pattern (at least to my eye). I tried
cleaning the heads and the pattern remains unchanged. Any help is
greatly appreciated!

Bob,

Sounds like the cartridge air hole is clogged. Sometimes the pulltab
doesn't come off completely. Pull out the cart, gently separate the
two halves. Then poke a hole where the pulltab was. Re-insert,
do a clean cycle and I bet you'll be up and running.

Dear Bob,

You just might have the cartridges in the wrong slots...

Check their positions, I seem to remember a thread about this a while ago.

Thanks, Roy.

This worked perfectly. I was surprised that the spot where I had to
poke the hole was covered by both a thin plastic film and by a piece
of absorbant material. Are both of these supposed to come off with the
pulltab? It doesn't matter I guess, because I poked the hole, got a
good nozzle check pattern, and most immportantly - a good print. Thanks.
