Dye based ink set

Dye based ink set

2006-10-05 by Piet Weber

Hi,

Could anyone give me advise on what ink-set to buy for my Epson 2100. I use Lyson
Photochrome ink and use QTR to combine the black and diluted black for B/W prints. I now
want to setup this printer for black/white printing only, so more shades of gray can now be
installed. I hate bronzing, that's why I am looking for a dye based black/white ink set. Does
anyone have experience? It seems that Lyson has a dye based inkset: Daylight Darkroom, but
I have no idea if this will work with QTR.

Cheers, Piet

You won't get bronzing on matte papers with pigment inks. You will get
limited bronzing on glossy papers. Dye inks on non-swellable papers
(i.e. RC glossy/semigloss and matte) will probably give you very limited
print life.

I use the UT7 inkset with Gloss Optimizer in the yellow position. The UT7
inks have very little gloss differential even without Glop, only some gloss
differential in the highlights. With the Glop this gloss differential is
removed completely.

I have not heard of a BW dye inkset that's any good. All the Lyson inksets
are plagued with metamerism, color shifts and questionable stability.
