newb with K6 inks and 9500:revised question - filled in shadows

hopefully this revised question won't scare too many away... I have got my 9500 with K6 inks running. I am making test prints, and my shadow areas all fill in. I converted my entire scanner-to-printer workflow over to 2.2 gamma (was 1.8, I'm on a Mac), hoping that would help, but no. Any advice out there for a beginner? thanks much in advance, pat
