QTR does not use ICC profiles directly. For printing it uses Curve
files that have a .quad or .qidf file name extension.

Exactly how are you trying to use ICC profiles with QTR?

Are there curves available for Silver Rag? I'd also be interested in
curves for other papers, if there are sites to look for these.

ICC profiles

I have created some icc profiles with QTR-Create_ICC.app using readings of my final print
out of the 21-step wedge after linearization using no color management for my warm and
cool curves; I also plan on doing some others for varying degrees in between my cool and
warm. I have seen the immediate benefit of these icc profiles for soft proofing.

As far as using them for printing I have some questions. First when using these icc
profiles for printing, I'm assuming that you use them with the Epson driver or other RIPs
for the printer you are using; is my assumption correct? Second, can you use them when
printing through QTR, and if so, do you use them in conjunction with the same curve
settings as was used to create the icc profile??? And if you can print with the icc profiles
through QTR what are the advantages of doing so???

Another question I have is about the other ICC application with QTR, QTR-Create_ICC-
RGB.app. Ii is my understanding that this application is for creating icc profiles with ACV
curve adjustments to adjust the tone. I'm not sure what the advantages of doing so; so if
someone could explain I would appreciate this. I'm also assuming that this is also only for
when using full color inksets and not for use with gray scale inksets. I'm guessing the
advantage is when using full color inksets is that you would be able achieve any tone
desirable and the tones should match a calibrated monitor.

Thanks in advance for your comments,
Randy

The statement "Here are three new ICC profiles--gray-lab.icc gray-matte.icc and gray-photo.icc " appears in the first line of the gray-readme.rtf document located in the CurveDesign folder. Since there is no link to these profiles in the rtf document, can you please tell or point me to where these files are located or how to find them.

Kind regards,

Peter Henriksen

On my (Win) system, they're in the QuadToneRIP/icc program folder, long with the .rtf. I assume that they were installed there. You sure that they're not there?

Thanks, Brian. I use a Mac and the mentioned icc profiles are not in any of the QuadToneRIP folders.

Usually the ICC profiles are installed simply by right clicking the appropriate file (whether still within a Zip or compressed file, or after expanding the file to a hard disk location). As for me, I keep ALL of my profiles in a specific folder location and then install, using the right-click function (and at the top of the menu drop-down is Install). Mostly, I like to keep my C-drive as lean and clean as possible, so every font, ICC profile, etc, is kept on an alternate drive, though C accesses via shortcuts. Windows Color MGMT function can assist in managing.

However, you seem to indicate a different issue; though it is uncertain your steps to install. Like Occam's Razor, the simplest steps (or re-steps) can clarify. That said, periodically, some ICCs (on shortcut) can disappear inopportunely (but you just reinstall them). Other times they don't show up in an app, but, once you close and then re-open the app, the profiles are there. In Windows, the color management function is a good tool to visually check for the installation of ICC profiles, fonts, and other things.
