Epson 2200 white lines

Epson 2200 white lines

2007-03-03 by fwaterlander

After printing using QTR the same image more than 20 times in two
different sizes in my efforts to resolve an issue (that thank goodness
is now resolved) a single white line suddenly appeared in my prints;
it's about 1/4" from the leading edge of the paper and about 1/8" from
the leading edge of the printed area; it's about half as wide as the
line from a 0.5mm thick mechanical pencil. It showed up in the last
five prints. I've uninstalled the QTR program and reinstalled it, but
the line is still there. There is no line when I print with the Epson
driver. Searching through this forum I came upon the hint that curled
printer paper might be the cause, but my paper is as straight as an
arrow.

I would really appreciate any suggestions that you might have.

Fred, it sounds like some corruption in a temp file that's only used by
QTR.

I'm far from expert, but a dedicated QTR temp file is apparently what
QTR driver prints from..it's what we see on the QTR viewer...it's not
used by the Epson driver, even though you can often, but unreliably
return to it if you leave and go back to QTR (mine vanishes
unpredictably, requiring search of HD for the original file... Epson
driver uses the original file, not that QTR file). What I'm describing
is accidental learning or superstition, I've not read about it anywhere.

I'd suggest Start>Disc Cleanup if you're using XP, then searching HD for
the original file when you're in QTR. That will eliminate old, possibly
corrupted temp files that may be the source of your problem. It'll also
speed your computer. With my setup it's crucial to regularly do that
Cleanup when I'm Photoshopping because I run out of C-drive space otherwie.

John and, I believe, Sarah,

I think I have traced the problem to some intermittent clogged light
black, light cyan and light magenta nozzles of my Epson 2200 printer.
After repeated cleaning the clogs disappeared and the QTR prints look
fine now. It seems that, possibly because of different dithering, QTR
is more sensitive to this kind of problem. I'll need to keep a close
eye on clogged nozzles.

I believe Sarah sent me an email and I deleted it, thinking her post
would be on the forum which it was not, but thanks anyway! The white
line appeared at the leading edge, not the trailing edge and there was
more than 1" of paper beyond the trailing edge of the printed area.
