R-1800 not loading

R-1800 not loading

2007-07-09 by Michael

Hi - I am using an R-1800, sometimes it loads just fine and other
times it will not take the paper in, while other times it takes the
paper and just passes it through. Is this a common problem or do I
have a defective printer. I have tried thicker 250gsm and regular
20lb copy paper and it does bad things with both.
Any thoughts.....Michael G

I don't have an 1800 but IIRC with my older Epson printers (1160, 1280, maybe the 2200 as well) when I hit the "print" button and the paper just passed through the printer without printing it meant that one of the ink cartridges was empty.

Hi Michael, I have the same problems with my R800. I think it is because
the paper feed mechanism isn't really designed for thicker papers or "art"
papers and consequently gets covered in paper dust and loses its grip. You
can improve it by cleaning the rubber wheel with either some kind of alcohol
or water.

Michael -

I don't think it is a defective printer, because my R1800 does the same
thing. I read someone says it may be about rollers, and that seems logical,
I don't seem to have a problem when printing with the Epson driver, just
QTR. I don't really understand why QTR and R1800 would present paper
thickness problems, I have worked around the problem my being patient
(sometimes takes 5 or 6 tries, sometimes only 1) and giving a little
assistance to the paper feed process to help it catch on the rollers.

Probably not a scientific approach, but it really is only a small annoyance.

I have this issue from time to time on a 1280 printer as well so it's
not unique to the R1800. One of the workarounds that seems to work is
to not try and load single sheets. Put two or three sheets in the
holder and then try printing. This usually solves it for me.

Either that or you have to do what someone else suggested... be
patient and try multiple times. I haven't had to try more than 3 or 4
times.
