Anyone have a recommendation on a good photo printer under $1k that prints up to 13" wide or more and has 7+ ink cart. I'm more interested in printing B&W fine art images but will be printing color as well. Thanks for your feedback. Ken

To follow-up on Paul's suggestion, I would recommend the 3800. I just upgraded from the Epson 2200 to the 3800. It comes with full ink cartridges - about $500 worth of ink. When you consider how much more ink you get by buying with the 3800, the actual 2400 and 3800 printers are close to the same price. The 3800 with QTR prints great black and whites using OEM ink. I've been looking at the Epson 3800, HP 9180 and Canon
5000.
HP is the cheapest at $600. Epson and Canon run about
$1100-1200

Ken:
Don't know where you are, but just checked Craigslist
NYC where there is a 2400 for $550 and a $4800 for
$1,200, but with inks and paper thrown in. Depends on
the risk you're willing to take...I picked up one
literally in the box this way. You might check
Craigslist in your area.
My friends do well with the 3800 but I'm a panoramic
photographer and need roll paper so didn't go the 3800
route when I added the 2400. Like using roll paper on
the 4800 too. Ironically still have my 2000P
producing some nice work.

I too would recommend the Epson R2400 for under 1,000 US. It prints up to 13 inches wide and takes roles. You can use the standard inkset or swap out for a quadtone/BW inkset. The 3800 is more money, but I understand its a good deal because the ink cartridges are so much bigger--and you can switch between photo and matte blacks without swapping out and loosing ink--but it doesn't take rolls. I would like to put in one more plug for the 3800. Certainly, if a person uses roll paper extensively the 3800 is not the printer. I used my 2200 for 4 years and never had the roll feeder on it. I do occasionally print up to 30 inches in length by cutting paper to size from a roll and using a user defined size. I do the same with the 3800. You can define custom sizes up to 17" x 37". It works fine, but only if you need the long prints occasionally.
