.quad files in curve drop box won't display in printer dialogue

.quad files in curve drop box won't display in printer dialogue

2007-07-29 by robert49brake

I'm trying to produce my own curves to build profiles and am getting stuck at the above
point. I'm using a modified curve and have it labeled using only letters, numbers, dashes, etc.
I've tried multiple methods of installing the curve including putting the curve into the drop-
quad-curve program, putting the install program and the curve into a folder and double
clicking the install command file. All methods end up putting the curve into the drop curve
box but I cannot get the curve to show up in the (Mac) printer dialogue box within the
QuadTone RIP page of the printer dialogue.

QTR 2.5.1, OSX 10.4.10, G4 powerbook, Epson R220 installed as a Quadr200.

I did this successfully many months ago under QTR 2.4 and I've been trying to duplicate my
steps with no success. I'm able to print within the Calibration command, but just cannot
make any curves appear. Any suggestions.

I am finding that the QTR drop-down list refreshes to show the .quad files in the
CurveDropBox folder once you restart the application doing the printing. If you delete .quad
files from the folder or add new ones - by Drop-Quad-Profile or moving existing .quad files
there directly while your printing application is running you won't see the latest list. Just quit
the app and restart. The curves should show up.

Robert,

I should have said that the curves show up after the .ppd file is updated followed by the
application startup. So I think it goes more like this:

Edit a profile - Drop-Quad-Profile it (which creates the .quad and updates the .ppd) - Start
your App - new curve available

OR

Add/delete a .quad from the drop box - Run-Install-Curves to update the .ppd - Start your
App - new curve available

I guess the operating system loads the .ppd file once on application startup and holds onto
it. If the .ppd gets updated with a new curve or set of curves while the application is running
the curves will appear at the next application startup.

That did it, thanks. I had tried restarting before without success but somewhere I must have
inadvertantly sorted something else out that was a problem as well. Off and rolling now!
Thanks again, Robert

I had the same thing happen. After I d0 a "save as" for the new curve
from the menu File>Save As, I then copied the .guid file from one
computer to the other, putting it in the proper subfolder from my
printer.

But before I could use it, I found I had to go into the Curve Creation
dialog, open the curve, then hit the "Create Curve" button. I think
that this is what creates the "other" curve that's as instructions by
the printer. (If you're not copying to another computer, you have to
do it as part of your curve creation.)

At one point the curve was still not showing up in the print screen
under "Curve Setup" but I realized I had the wrong printer model
selected in the "Printer" part of the screen.

Best, David.
