Curve Creation failure

2007-08-17 by raydotee

I have been playing around with QTR for a few weeks, trying to assess
whether it is right for my purposes. All seems well, except that I
cannot make the Curve Creation program work. I have been following the
steps in Tom Moore's guide, but whenever I try to save a .qidf file to
modify a curve I get the following error messages:

"The system cannot find the file specified
The system cannot find the path specified
Qdotgain did not return a valid curve at quadprofile.pl line 88
Curve Creation failed"

Everything was installed to the default folders:

Program files are in C:\Progran Files\QuadToneRIP\bin
.qidf files are in C:\Progran Files\QuadToneRIP\Profiles\2100-ut7
Curve files are in C:\Progran Files\QuadToneRIP\QuadTone\Quad2100-UT7

I have tried moving the .qidf files and .quad files to the
QuadToneRIP\bin folder to see if that makes a difference, but I get
the same error messages.

Anyone got any ideas - thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried loading one of the included qidf files and generating a curve
from it unmodified?

7500 will not print

2007-08-17 by Jim

I am running OSX 10.4.10 on a G-5 dual with the latest
QTR 2.5.1 and a 7500 with K-6 and printing from
Photoshop CS3. The printer won't print upon command.
The printer box says 28% complete (or whatever %) and
then goes straight to a "no job printing" message.
The paper never moves and the printer makes no noise.
I can not print from Microsoft Word or from Preview
either, although I can get a nozzle check printed with
no problem. There is, therefore, some communication
between the computer and printer.

I am not an idiot, having been using this same
approximate set-up for years now, with no problems,
and this exact set-up for the last few months with no
problems. I just can't get it to work at all now.
Help!

Jim Hockings

The USB port on my printer failed out of the blue (same symptoms)...my
workarounds were to use PC/parallel port, and eventually a network
card (with crossover cable, no router) from ebay so I could use mac again.

John,

Thanks for the help.

I am wondering how my computer still manages to
recognise the printer, if the port is dead and how it
manages to gove the orders to do a nozzel check. Does
the port fail in a very selective manner and do
everything else right but just not print?

Thanks again.

Stephen

Yes I have, I have been loading the supplied files to use as a basis
for experiment, and I have tried using them unmodified, with the same
results.

What operating system are you running?

The only thought I have is that something has got corrupt. You can try
removing QTR and reinstalling it.

There is a clean out program at http://software.sbillard.org/QTRgui.htm.
Also download the latest version of the gui from that page and install it
after you install the main package.

Sorry, beyond my paygrade...my computers (os9, osx, winXP) could not
see the printer through the USB port at all. May not be your USB port
if you can do nozzle check from the computer...if you have access to a
WinXP box you could try the parallel port and see if you have the same
problem. Network card was really cheap on ebay (~$20).

Hopefully someone can help you with the issue you are having.
