Lightroom on Mac and Grey Profiles

2008-05-24 by drbenwhite

Hello all,

I have searched the archives and I've not seen this problem reported before. I am trying out
QTR with Lightroom 1.4.1 on a Mac. I can print from Photoshop CS, but when I try to print
from Lightroom I can't select the proper printer profile (which should be grey-matte, or
grey-photo. Those profiles aren't available in the Lightroom menu (they are available in the
Photoshop print dialog). When I try using the rgb-matte I get an "Invalid profile" error. The
profiles do appear to be properly installed on in /Library/Printer/QTR/icc ..

... so has anyone else seen this problem, or knows of a solution.

Ben

I guess you are using a Mac?

I have no trouble in printing from LR. Under "Print job/ Color
mangement/ Profile" I use "Manged by printer" and this works for me.
I print images converted to greyscale in LR and images that are true
greyscale when imported into LR (scanned negatives). - QTR appears in
the drop down "print" dialog where you choose curve/paper type.

I use the same process to print from Lightroom on the Mac.

It works fine. I can see very, very minor differences between a file
printed via Photoshop and via Lightroom. (After 5 minutes looking at
two prints as close to my face as my eyes could focus, I noticed a
that tones between 98-100% separated slightly differently, but this is
only evident when comparing output of identical files and there is not
enough difference to worry about. (And I am very picky.)

I now use photoshop to print work proofs, then final images are
"cropped" to the necessary size and printed via Lightroom. This has
really improved the printing experience. I either print an image to a
print template in LR, or I make a virtual copy to a specific crop
dimension and print from there.
