Hi all-- I just got a new UT7 cartridge inkset. It's working well (variable tone is nice) but it is exhibiting pretty bad banding. I'm using the curves that came with QTR along with the QTR- Matte-Profile when I go to print. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peter

By the way, I'm using Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "eyewall" <eyewall@...> wrote: > > Hi all-- > > I just got a new UT7 cartridge inkset. I just ran the nozzle check. It's clogged pretty badly. Cleaning has no effect whatsover. What should I do? --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "eyewall" <eyewall@...> wrote:

Everyone, I would really appreciate a solution. My printer has so far gone through half of my brand new $80 ink trying to fix a clog. Please help. --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Grant" <gphoto2@...> wrote:

Just this weekend I have discarded a 2100 after two years with the UT3D inkset. In those two years I have mainly fought air traps not so much clogs. Both result in bad nozzle checks but their nature is different. These air traps occured always after a cartridge refill (and therefor removing and replacing the cartridges). In my case 2-3 cleaning cycles did the job. In bad case cases simply waiting overnight also helped. Having said the above, recently I got very severe clogging. I attribute that to repeated leaking from the spongless cartridges I had (not from MIS but from mandev.co.uk). I tried the following procedure: http://www.marrutt.com/epson-2100-support.php I must admit that tn my case this didn't help. As alternative it was suggested to me to replace the isopropanol by ethanol (alcohol) or simply methylated spirit with a touch of ammonia. Head cleaning fluid should be similar to this mixture. I also tried to fill an empty cartridge with this mixture. Unfortunately, my 2100 was too far gone. So we parted this weekend.. Hope you have more success. 1) Try both adaptive hybrid and ordered dithers (bottom of QTR control panel) 2) Try increasing ink loading (eg to 75) 3) If those don't work, forget MIS. QTR does fine with Epson pigments, produces deeper blacks than UT7, equal neutrality, and will never clog nearly as seriously. If you don't get reliably perfect nozzle tests (eg 9 out of 10 times) problems will continue. --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "eyewall" <eyewall@...> wrote: > > Everyone, I would really appreciate a solution. I call my 1800 printer cloggy! This usually works to get good nozzle checks: Printer on... Hit the ink button.... Un- plug the printer.... Have windex and paper towels, a small cup, a drinking straw (I use a clear - ink pen barrel), and one or two latex gloves. Inkjetmall.com has this basic info too. Fold a paper towel so that it is a long, thin, flat band that will fit into the lowest part of you printer head area, i.e. so the print head can pass over it. First wet the middle of the paper towel with windex (Leaving a couple of inches dry on each end). Once in place, move the print head over the middle of the soaked paper towel, the lift it up being very gentle, and wiggle it around the bottom of the print head. Go through several paper towels until it starts to look pretty clear of ink. Leave the last one in place for a little while and clean the ink waste pad (capping station). On the ink waste pad using the straw put a few drops of windex (water works too). Soak up the ink/windex/water mix, be very gentle, with a folded paper towel. Do this several times. When you are finished with the ink waste pad, remember to remove the paper towel under the print head. Plug the printer back in and run a nozzle check. This usually works, but if your heads are really plugged up, you may need to re-clean the print head. Sometimes an over night wait is needed too. Inkjetmall.com has information that is like this, and presented probably a lot more clearly. Good Luck Michael G
