Hello Bishop. Before you get too far along, what inkset are you planning to use with the 1900? And what OS, Mac or Windows? The 800/1800/1900 series uses
unique inksets that don't really lend themselves to good b&w with the original color inkset. There is Paul Roark's method that uses his 3MK inkset for matte paper
and the Piezography K7 inkset of seven black inks for matte paper. Each of those has a profile set located under profiles (for 1800). For the Epson Ultrachrome
inkset there is only one profile for EEM on the 800-1800, sort of a test, listed under the R1800-UC folder. (there is also a readme in that folder that is important. )
That said, as for the CurveDropBox, are you using the latest version of QTR. The curve drop box isn't there any more. There is a different method detailed in the
Basic Tutorial, Quad Tone RIP on Mac OS X, Version 2.6 March 2006. Look at the section headed: Installing custom QTR Profiles for another source. Since no one
has written any profiles for the 1900 yet you would have to create your own or try adapting some others.
For Paul Roark's 3MK method you could try creating a folder called R1900-3MK. Copy the InstallR1900.command into that folder and rename it: installR1900-
3mk.command. (the install scripts are identical but use the name of the command to differentiate the printers) Copy the profiles that you want to use from the
R800-R1800-3MK folder into the R1900-3MK folder. Then double click on the newly named; installR1900-3mk.command icon inside the R1900-3MK folder.
That will run the script and install the profiles where they need to be. (If you are on Windows, you're in a different ballgame altogether, can't help you at all there.)
The same procedure could be used to create an R1900-K7 folder or an R1900-UC folder. The only caveat with the UC inks is that you would have Orange where
the Blue should be and you'd be off in completely uncharted territory. I would think the 3MK and K7 profiles would be close enough to give you a start but that will
depend on how similar the 1800 and 1900 are excluding the blue/orange ink issue.
Good Luck.
