f.a.o. Roy please ... QTR-Create-ICC on Vista

2009-01-14 by Stephen Gledhill

Roy,

Can you offer any help here please?

On my Windows XP PC Ive successfully used QTR-Create-ICC for some years
now. A while ago I got a new Vista PC and am using it successfully for most
things I do. BUT, for the first time since getting it I wanted to use
QTR-Create-ICC to profile some new paper/ink I have QTR 2.6.2.0 on the
Vista PC and 2.5.2.0 on the XP PC. After creating the text file with my i1
and ProfileMaker MeasureTool I tried dropping the resulting text file
(ILF-GFS-ABW-N4V4-14jan09.txt) onto QTR-Create-ICC.exe as Id always done on
my XP. I got the message:

Cannot find the C:\Program
Files\QuadtoneRIP\Eye-One\ILF-GFS-ABW-N4V4-14jan09-out.txt file. Do you want
to create a new file? Answering Yes or No creates a blank text file. So
I dont get my ICC file.

To try to diagnose the problem I took the ProfileMaker created text file to
my old XP PC where it successfully created the ICC profile with the older
version of QTR-Create-ICC. I then copied the version of QTR-Create-ICC from
my XP to my Vista PC where it also successfully created the ICC. As a final
check I copied QTR-Create-ICC (shipped with QTR 2.6.2.0) from my Vista PC to
my XP PC where that version worked perfectly to create the ICC. So, it
appears that the current version of QTR-Create-ICC may have a problem
executing on Vista (but not a problem on XP).

Or am I doing something wrong not to be discounted ... !

Or is it just my installation of Vista surely others must have seen this?

Ive searched the archive but cant find any reference to this or did I
miss it?

Hi Steve,
Good old Vista!
My guess is that it's a file permission issue. I see that you are using the
Eye-One
folder for your files. This folder may have more restricted permission --
did you
install as an admin user but run as a non-admin user?

Try using a folder in your own document area. You can create a shortcut to
the
program in this folder for easy usage.

Hi there Roy,
Right on the button. I moved QTR-Create_ICC as you suggested and ...
bingo. It had to be something simple and Vista related.
Thanks Roy.

OK I'm about to say screw it!
After downloading QTR last night and going through countless messages on this forum and others in an attempt to find some definitive documentation on Create ICC, I came across the above post and Roy's reply. Ok, it may be easy to do if you've done it before or have a degree in IT, but I could not get the three .exc file to open or create a shortcut(as indicated above) in order to utilize them. I am running Vista. I don't have an i1(I had planned on utilizing DataColor's PrintFix Pro) so I don't know if that's a problem. Could somebody please write a step by step procedure as to how I can get these files open?

Drag your text file of properly formatted spectro readings to the shortcut or the exe icon. This is the only way to run any of the 3 Create ICC programs.

Thanks for replying! So let me make sure of what your stating. After I make the measurements I take the text file that PrintFix Pro creates(according to David Miller-senior software developer of DataColor, the text file is formatted to use with Create ICC)and drag it to the Create ICC folder within the EyeOne folder and Create ICC will then generate a profile. Is that correct? Is that the same for for the other "Create.." folders as well? The reason I'm asking about this is that procedure that DataColor(as written by David Miller)states at the end of their directions "If your not sure how to use Create ICC, consult the QTR documentation". To which I ask(concerning CreateICC)what documentation. If there is indeed documentation, please direct me to it. As for your reply, again thank you!
