Curve creation conundrum
2005-09-04 by Tom Moore
I am making a set of curves for Epson VFA for UC inks and a 2200 printer. I am having a strange thing happening: From the inkseparation page print I get an overall ink limit of 70%. That's the similar to the default ink limit for the UCmk-EEM curve, so I think it's in the ballpark - so far so good. The when I measure the density of the LK relative to the K it comes out to be around 18%. This value is just over half the LK density used in the EEM 2200 curve and in the EEM and VFA for most other printers. Also some of these curves have even lower limits on LK and still have twice the max LK density. The density of LK was calculated from the following patch densities measured with my x-rite 810 (and yes, I checked it's calibration) Darkest LK patch d = .89 15% K patch d = .79 2o% K patch d= .97 Interpolating gives LK patch ~= 18% Can anyone explain why my LK density is so much less than others, or what I might be doing wrong?
