replacement for old XKey to use with X-rite 810 on Win7

replacement for old XKey to use with X-rite 810 on Win7

2010-10-21 by Richard Vanek

This maybe already known information and maybe not many people are
using X-Rite 810 for measuring densities when creating new profile for
QTR, but I though maybe it could be handy for somebody.

I have recently installed Windows7 in 64bit version.
Old XKey from X-rite from 90' is not working anymore and in noe of the
compatibility modes.
I was looking for some replacememnt and found software from X-rite from 2007.
It is called ToolCrib in version 5 which you can get from
http://downloads.xrite.com/downloads/software/Utilities/ToolCrib/pc/v5.0.14/ToolCrib5014-WIN.zip

When it start select Generic device, correct serial port parameters
and click on button X-Key
Than you can adjust behavior almost same way as in old XKey and all
works nicely.

I hope I could help somebody.

Thanks Richard, that was useful! ToolCrib is indeed a nifty little piece
of software.

Let me just add that one has to use a 0-Modem Cable (NOT a serial cable)
to connect the 810 to the serial port of the computer! This may spare
potential readers quite some trouble...
