R200 Using K6 QuadTone Driver

R200 Using K6 QuadTone Driver

2011-02-27 by Rusty Sterling

At first, nothing would print. Now it is printing but the results are horrible -- a lot of magenta.

So here is what I see when setting up the driver:

1. Color Matching defaults to ColorSync and I cannot change to Vendor option.

2. Cannot print Black Only.

3. Photo ink option and for curves I see only curves for matte papers.

The printer prints fine with the Epson driver, and I can print BO. It also default to Vendor color and not ColorSync.

I also tried with the GC QuadTone Driver and it would not print at all. In addition, the settings I noted above also applied -- it just won't do what I think it should.

Any ideas?

Let me add to this. First off, I'm on a Mac OS 10.6.6. Second, I installed and set up my QTR print Drivers using the Basic Tutorial for Mac OS X.

After running into my problems I then started reading the User Guide by Tom Moore. At this point I am even more confused. I have gone looking for the QTR GUI applications and cannot find it to save my life. Maybe things are different on a Mac, since I notice that the User Guide is Windows centric.

Should I uninstall QTR and begin again from scratch or what?

Oh, and using the GQ QT Driver gives me very Cyan toned images.

Nevermind. I rushed into things much more blindly than I realized. As far as my R2880, I'm going to just continue using the Epson driver and print ABW. For the R200, I need to wait until my B&W inkset arrives before trying anything.

Now that leads me to another question. Is there a printer profile for the R200 using MIS UT-R2 inks?

Tom's user guide is primarily for Windows users, and qtrgui is Windows
only. On Windows this is the only way to print using QTR; it can't be
done direct from Photoshop.

Yeah, I get it. Another issue I would have is using Photoshop CS5. So I have Windows 7 installed on another partition of my iMac and I'll just us the Windows version there and forget on the Mac.

Thanks.

Rusty,

If you are using the K6 driver and are printing too magenta - it is because you have not installed the K6 inks and are still relying on your color inks.

K6 is Piezography K6 which is a replacement set of inks for your printer that include a black and five additional increasingly lighter shades of gray.

Jon

Hi Jon,

I appreciate the confirmation. I kind of figure that is what was happening. I'll
be getting the MIS UT-R2 inks this week. Only thing is that there isn't a driver
that I can find for the R200 with that inkset. But I'm looking.

Thanks,

Rusty
