rendering intent

I am encountering references here and elsewhere to using QTR profiles with relative colorimetric and black point compensation when printing from Photoshop. This surprised me, I had thought that QTR profiles only supported perceptual rendering. I just converted identical files to a QTR profile inside Photoshop using relative with BPC for one and perceptual for the other and the results were not the same. I could be wrong but it seems to me that Photoshop didn't used to allow a conversion using relative, that is to say that configuring relative in Photoshop had no effect on the conversion. Did I misunderstand or has something changed in either QTR or Photshop?
