Aperture and R2880

Aperture and R2880

2011-11-20 by allenoaks2@att.net

I am trying to print to Epson R2880 Printer with matte black ink installed. The Apple print dialog only lists 4 paper types as choices for high resolution images. Printer requires the use of a matte type paper before allowing printing to continue. I have matte paper installed, but print dialog does not allow me to pick it. Only choices are glossy, semi glossy, photo glossy, and luster.
Printer will not accept any of these choices.

From my experience with the R2880 printer it sounds as though you have the PK (photo black) cartridge installed. The printer section in Photoshop only allows certain papers, depending on the black cartridge used. If PK, only glossy paper, if MK only Matt paper.

Your print dialogue result suggests you actually have photo black installed.

This explains why I wish I had the Epson R3000 which has the extra cartridge so both are always available. When I need to change the black cartridge I have to think, "Do I want to print on Glossy or Matt for the next period?"

Hope this helps.

Jim Thyer.

Hi Allen:

I recommend going into the Utility for the printer, and in the StatusMonitor (where you check ink levels), click on the matte black ink and click
"Update."

Hope that helps,

Andrew

Thanks, but that didn't work. The problem is that the Apple print setup dialog which comes up after the QRT dialog does not give an option which will allow printing.
I get the message: The ink cartridge combination currently installed in the printer does not match the selected print settings. Open the Print dialog to update the settings.

And when I open the print dialog there is no choice which allows printing with the matte black ink installed.

No, I have MK (matte black) installed. It's just that the print dialog does not change to paper types compatible with MK.

It sure sounds like you are looking at the Epson driver not the QTR
driver. QTR driver does not look at
or care which black ink is installed, so I'm confused about what you
are actually trying.
