ETA? please!

ETA? please!

2006-01-06 by phil hendricks

Hi Brice,
Can you give us a date as to when we can expect our modules. After this much
time I think we all deserve a delivery date.
I think most were told 3-4 weeks initially, but now it's getting close to 2
years.
Personally, I'm getting very concerned, as by most laws, at least if paid
by CC, you need to deliver the merchendise within 30 days after payment.
hell, my wife won't let me buy anything else that isn't "ready to ship."

This is becomming absurd. Please at least be honest and let us know when
we'll should expect them. We keep getting notes about delays. just give us a
date, and inform if that changes and why.
thanks,
phil

Phil,

If I could give an exact ETA, they would have shipped by now. I'm working
on them as quickly as I can without compromising build quality and testing.
I hope you understand. Over 2/3 of the folks have already received them.
There is nothing to be concerned about. You *will* get your module. If you
simply cannot wait any longer and want to do the final wiring of the front
panel and testing, let me know and you can complete the module yourself. It
takes about an hour to wire it all up and then I put it through about 2
hours of testing (on each and every module... and the partials take a lot
longer to test as they don't have jacks to plug into) to make certain all
four channels work identically. I've changed out a lot of parts as the
tolerances are pretty tight and do make a difference. This is yet another
reason for the extended delays. One would think 1% components and high
quality TI parts would all be the same, but I've found problems in
tolerances even between the DACs which are not a cheap part. Let's not even
bring up trying to match the four blue LEDs. That was a mistake and I
probably won't do that again. Using a LED as a power level indicator... not
one, but four that have to turn on at the same exact voltage (and they turn
on at a very low voltage) and need to maintain the same color and brightness
throughout the entire range isn't the best use of an LED. :)

Let me know if you can't wait any longer and want your module shipped AS-IS,
or if you're willing to wait a bit longer for a fully tested module.

Building these module is not my full-time job. I work two other jobs that
take up 12 to 14 hours of my day 6 days a week. I work on the modules when
I'm not at work or not too tired. I'm doing the best I can and I hope you
and the others still waiting understand that I don't want to compromise the
quality of the modules just to get them shipped. If I would do that, I
could hire some students to finish them and off they would go. But I don't
feel right about not doing it myself and making sure they are 100%+ perfect
before shipping.

Best regards,

Brice
