Has anyone gotten their PSIM yet? How much longer do we have to wait? The fact that no one is reporting that they've received theirs is alarming. Romeo

Don't be alarmed. Those who ordered the "partials" will be receiving shipping confirmations starting Monday. "Complete" modules will follow shortly. More updates later... - Brice ----- Original Message -----

Hello everyone. Okay, I've began printing postage labels and getting the modules ready to ship. Partials will begin shipping tomorrow and the complete modules following shortly. IMPORTANT: I have received numerous emails from people who have claimed to have sent money to someone and I'm supposed to ship the module to them instead. Wonderful... huh? How am I supposed to know for sure? So, I will only ship to the *Original Purchaser* (except those who I made arrangements with at the beginning) and if you've sold your "place in line" or whatever... *you* can ship to your buyer. I can't get stuck in the middle. I know I've received a couple emails from a couple of you who have changed addresses. That's no problem (as long as I have confirmed I have the correct address). Otherwise, I will only ship to the address on the original PayPal transaction. I hope you all understand. Also, if any of you simply can NOT wait any longer and want me to ship the panels and PCBs so you can wire them up and test them... let me know. The boards are complete and the panels already have all the jacks, switches, and buttons installed. It's only a matter of connecting about a dozen wires and a ribbon cable and it's done. Otherwise, I'll be getting them shipped out probably two or three a week until they are all gone. I'm working two full-time jobs and spare time is rare. Otherwise... please have a bit more patience with me. I know this has been a long ride... and everyone has been *extremely* patient. That's one thing I love about the synth community. Those of you who know me personally know I am a man of my word. I have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into these modules. But those of you who already have them, and those of you that will start receiving them in the next couple days... will know it's worth the wait. Here are links to a couple photos showing all the modules: http://www.synthmodules.com/images/psim-1-batch_a.jpg http://www.synthmodules.com/images/psim-1-batch_b.jpg That's Larry's sitting on top... ready to go! If you have any questions, please contact me off-list. Best regards, Brice http://www.SynthModules.com

My PSIM-1 arrived today. I have the partial for the MOTM panel. So, I cannot play until I read the docs and figure out how to finish up wiring it all up. The build quality is just fine and I expect everyone will be quite happy with theirs. I know tis has been a tough year Brice. Thanks for finally making this happen. Dennis, There will be more PSIM-1 modules available. But first, I need to finish this current batch. I have a couple other ideas to compliment the PSIM-1 as well. Besides a MIDI module, I also see a plug-in white noise generator daughter board. I should have included that in the original design. We'll all talk about what's next once these are all shipped. - Brice http://www.SynthModules.com --- In SynthModules@yahoogroups.com, Dennis Verschoor <modular@g...> wrote: > So Brice > Gonna do another batch after these? > > Regards,. > > Dennis > > On 8/21/05, Brice D. Has anyone who received the partials I shipped wired them up yet? I still have a few more partials to ship and I'll be working on getting those finished up today... but it'll probably be sometime next week. I had two of the modules that I'm not satisfied with... so, I'll be replacing the DAC on both of them. By the way, polarity of an electrolytic *really does matter*! hehe Yep, even I make a mistake once in a while. I put one of the little power regulator caps in backwards. My wife was standing next to me when I powered it up. It was quite the little pop and scared the crap out of her. It didn't affect the module at all... but was a bit startling. So, yes... I let the smoke out of one of the PSIM-1 modules. I guess a project just can't be completed without that happening at least once. Now I can get these finished. :) Anyway, testing the partials takes about ten times as long as the completed modules (no jacks to plug into or switches to push)... and I can't wait until these final few are gone. ;) Then on to the fully assembled. Not too much longer... I really would like to hear from those of you who received the partials. It takes about an hour or two to wire them (assuming you already have your jacks and switches on the panels). Simply install the Atom Pro development software on your Windows machine, connect the serial cable, apply power to the PSIM-1 (which is already programmed with either a four channel chromatic quantizer program or a sweep program; depends on which one I finished with during testing... I use about five different programs to test them). Open up a program in the Basic Atom Pro software and hit the "Program" button at the top. That's all there is to it. There are over 100 programs on the CD to get you started. I'd recommend the following as a first program: psim-1-sample_and_hold-quantizer-demo.bas Plug in a joystick or Noise source or VCO, LFO, or whatever to the inputs. You get four channels of S&H chromatically quantized CV at 160bpm (can be changed in the code). Run the output to a VCO, filter, or anything else you want to control with quantized CV. Not to sound too arrogant (I don't use that word lightly - it's justifiable; try it and you'll see)... but you'll find out the PSIM-1 is the *best* quantizer, S&H, sequencer, etc. module ever built or conceived. Those of you who have them already know this. The possibilities are endless... and this is only the beginning! Enjoy! - Brice http://www.SynthModules.com ----- Original Message -----

Are there any high quality toggle switches that would work well with the PSIM? Preferrably something that Mouser carries. Thank you! Romeo
2005-09-02 by djbrow54
I use the NKK toggle switches similar to MOTM. I like them real well and they are quite reliable. They are the 0.450" actuator 0.350" flatted switch currently on page 1132.pdf at Mouser. I used DPDT momentaries for my PSIM to control both the Speakjet and the PSIM (Mouser 633-M202802. This link shows a photo. Of course for the standard PSIM you would only need the SPDT (Mouser 633-M201502). http://modularsynthesis.com/modules/synthmodules/synthmodules.htm Dave --- In SynthModules@yahoogroups.com, Romeo Fahl <rfahl@p...> wrote: > Are there any high quality toggle switches that would work well with

Colin, Not so well. I've been wanting to give an update for the last few days but haven't been up to it. I've been pretty sick for the last 4 weeks running a fairly high fever and almost hospitalized. I'm doing better now, but I still haven't gone back to work yet and really can't do much. A few more days and I should be back on my feet and able to work on the modules again. Anyway, right now I'm supposed to be resting. I'm a little surprised we haven't heard from all those that got their partials several weeks ago. Has anyone gotten them behind the Stooge MOTOM panel and running yet? I'd love to hear something and see some photos. More later... - Brice http://www.SynthModules.com --- In SynthModules@yahoogroups.com, "telharmonium06" <asfi@e...> wrote:

Yes, many people have received them. As several of you know, I have been in and out of the hospital due to illness. I'm getting them out as fast as I can. I recently received an email from someone who doesn't believe I have shipped any. Would those of you who have received them please speak up and let those know who are still waiting that they are real? I am working on them anytime I can... I would also like to see some photos of the "partials" that are being built behind the Stooge (and other) panels. I shipped a lot of partials... but haven't heard from anyone since. FWIW: I got my partial a couple of months ago. Might be good to post a spreadsheet of whose has shipped (and when?), whose is in the works and what their place in line is. Might take some of the mystery out of what's going on. Romeo

I received mine in August, as did Larry Hendry. Mine is still waiting to be mounted behind its Stooge panel however. I had anticipated having it up and running by now, but got sidetracked with Larry's death. As a testament to the popularity of this module, I recently sold Larry's unbuilt module projects, including his PSIM/stooge panel. It was by far the most requested module. I could have sold 8 of them if I had them available. I'm still waiting for my completed module that was ordered Feb. 19 2004. When did you guys place your orders? I was just currious to see if partials that were shipped out were ordered after the completed versions were sold and if they shipped out before.

I can answer that question. I populated and soldered all the PCBs at once (except the LED PCBs as I explained earlier how much time it takes to hand-match all the LEDs). So yes, the partials shipped before the completed modules. They are however being sent out in the order received. So, if you were last to order a complete module, you'll be the last to receive one. It didn't make much sense to keep a bunch of boards laying around when I could ship the partials. I hope that makes sense as to why the partials have already shipped (except two remaining -- one to the UK and one to Japan which will be the next to go out). Lately, Andrew and I have been working on power cables and I've been matching LEDs. There really isn't much more to do to them to complete them (basically just wiring up the jacks and switches, testing, etc... and it is easier to do several at a time rather than like how I started which was builing one at a time until it was complete and then starting the next.
