Etherwave Pro price hike, versus a $30 Japanese theremin

2008-06-16 by Lunette Records

I'm intrigued by the comment on the $3000 (!!) Etherwave Pro Ebay auction
that only 80 of these were made - is that 80 of the maple theremins? Does
anyone know approx how many of E-Pros were sold altogether, and of which
type? I'm in now way optimistic that MoogMusic will put out another premium
instrument - there biggest market opportunity would be to put out a slightly
souped up version of the Etherwave to capture the mass market.

On the other end of the scale, Japan has been going budget theremin crazy
with a new $30 theremin kit from a subscription magazine in a minature
plastic mould of the RCA theremin!

Lydia Kavina is having fun in the 1st video.

Apparently there's a Japanese magazine that carries these little instruments
as kits:

This also explains the funny little video of the cat playing there theremin
doing the rounds:

(the shocked look at the end on the other kitten's face is priceless)

Whilst it's no real instrument as such, I'm sure it'll whet the appetite of
a few more in an already theremin crazed nation,
