The mystery theremin....even more intriguing than the RCA on eBay
2007-06-02 by David V
Hello all, You may have seen the article sent out recently about the RCA theremin currently listed on eBay. The poor legless, original condition thing was found in an attic of a house acquired by what appears to be an estate sale company. In the eBay listing, the seller mentions, "I FOUND THIS TREASURE AS WELL AS WHAT APPEARS TO BE A PORTABLE ONE IN A SUITCASE AMOUNG ALL THE OTHER TREASURES THAT HAVE BEEN STORED OVER THE YEARS UP THERE." Several people asked to see pictures of this other theremin. I had assumed the other one was either a WaveFront Suitcase (if you take the description literally) or else something akin to an Etherwave or Theremax in a configuration that would fit in a suitcase. The pictures I got were of something much larger. If this was found in a suitcase, that was one *HELL* of a suitcase. There are no identifying markings on the instrument, but its case and construction suggests it was manufactured by someone, but some of the markings on the inside of the case suggest it might just be a custom job. I don't think I can attach photos to messages sent to this list, so I'm going to upload the photos to the Photos area of the Spellbound-L server on Yahoo. The URL to get there is: http://launch.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/spellbound-l/photos BTW, you can upload photos of yourself for the other Spellbound-L members to see if you like. I see Gordon already has. :-) I also uploaded my infamous "bug" photo from my official faculty picture from school. So....does that theremin look familiar to anyone? -- ----- DAVID VESEL -- synthetic music for humans http://davidv.purplenote.com davidv@... ----- The Purple Note Radio Network: Spellbound, music for theremin, 10PM Sundays http://spellbound.purplenote.com -----
