New additions to my movie collection

New additions to my movie collection

2007-05-27 by David V

So I splurged last week and went a bit nuts with my credit card....I'm
building up my movie collection.

This week I got Bartleby and Moog. Moog, I'm sure you're all familiar
with. Bartleby is a modern remake of Bartleby the Scrivener, starring
Crispin Glover. There is a theremin featurette, and Seth Asernow, who
composed the score, learned to play the theremin specifically for this
movie. His playing is....adequate. :-)

That brings my theremin DVD collection up to nine:

Bartleby*
Moog: A Documentary
Spellbound
Ed Wood*
The Day the Earth Stood Still*
Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey
Shueh-li Ong's Xenovibes (live in concert)
Etherwave Pro: Beginning and Advanced Theremin Techniques
How to Play the Theremin with Peter Pringle

* I also have the soundtrack CDs for these

Anyone have any suggestions for more movies?

David,

Since you included instructional videos in your list you might want to
get (both produced by Moog Music):

Mastering the Theremin -- Lydia Kavina (I believe this comes with the
Etherwave Standard)

Clara Rockmore: The Greatest Theremin Virtuosa

The Rockmore video is a must-have. It really is. Even if you don't
like classical music. To hear Rockmore play is one thing... to see
her play is breathtaking. (I believe this video was made around the
time of her LP recordings with Moog.)

I have those on VHS tape but not DVD yet. I think they're available on
DVD as a single disk.

Dude, you need "Clara Rockmore, the Greatest Theremin Virtuosa" for sure!

[I live on that film.]

And that 2004 Argentinean film "The Holy Girl", "La NiƱa Santa" supposedly
features a thereminist too, but I haven't viewed it yet.

Thanks for the list, never knew about "Bartleby ".

RE: [SPELLBOUND-L] New additions to my movie collection

2007-06-03 by John Hoge

This article covers the history of the theremin in Hollywood film really
well and mentions some I didn't know about.
Has any one seen "The Lady in the Dark" which the author cites as the first
Hollywood cinematic use of our instrument?

James Wierzbicki:

"Weird vibrations: how the theremin gave musical voice to Hollywood's
extraterrestrial "others" - electronic music from 1950s science fiction
films"

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0412/is_3_30/ai_94465247/pg_1

me too sr. chappelle
'it's very difficult to keep the line
between the past and the present.
you know what I mean?
it's awfully difficult.'
can't wait to find Dr. T on DVD
much appreciated
