I removed the offensive Ave Maria piece from my website. To be honest, it was pretty bad and I shouldn't have posted it anyway..... I've put something else up that is less offensive, I hope. Philip

Whoa Philip!!... I found nothing offensive about your "Ave Maria". In fact, it shows much progress that you have made over the last year. I wrote you privately with constructive criticism as you requested and, for the record, it was sincere and I hope offered encouragement. Additionally, since you posted the track, I have not read in public or private any harsh words about your "Ave Maria". I found much that was good about your effort. Had you presented your track as a "definitive arrangement of the 'Ave Maria'" then you might have been subject to some disagreement. However, you presented it (at least I took it to be) a work in progress -- not meant to "wow" anyone but intended for people to hear your progress to date and to offer constructive feedback. Nothing offensive about that! To my way of thinking, if one auditions for something (say a club gig, American Idol, a music festival) or one posts something in a PUBLIC (i.e. YouTube) forum then one is subject to comments from the general public that may or may not be constructive. However, I would like to think that the purpose of an online Theremin community is to promote and nurture music-making and the Theremin. An email list, such as Spellbound-L, is a great place to share intelligent commentary. To remove your track from cyberspace is up to you, of course. However, I appreciate you sharing it and I am glad that I took the time to listen and reply to you. Sincerely, Kevin Quoting kmg5443 <kmg5443@...>:

Kevin For some reason I never received your email? Thanks for writing! I do tend to be very hard on myself. PHILIP

Actually, I never heard from anyone on this list at all, Kevin. My email account was having problems that weekend so maybe they got lost in cyberspace. I had no internet from Comcast for most of that weekend. I did post "Amazing Grace" in Ave Maria's place. It most shows I believe, where I am at skill-wise. I gravitate to it when I warm up, so one might say I'm kinda familiar with the tune. I love Ave Maria. I play better when I'm not trying to record. Performance anxiety, I suppose. If I can get timing down pat, it will be much better. Our Uncle said I had pitched it way too low, and I tended to agree. Actually, the lower registers seem to be easier to master when hitting pitch. I just started playing it, however, I am having difficulty finding a suitable accompaniment piece. The track you heard was a midi I found somewhere on the internet. Kevin, I have read and really enjoyed hearing about your professional playing efforts. I particularly like the costume where your vest looks like an EPRO Moog. That is cool in the extreme. PHILIP

That is cool in the extreme. Thanks for the compliment, Philip. However, the cool Epro vest (actually a photoshop pic) is the work of Kip Rosser. :) I just re-sent the email I sent you and included the list. I'll listen to your "Amazing Grace" later... I have to run now. -- Kevin

Oops! A fatal faux pax on my part!!! Sorry 'bout that. I have a video on Veoh from about a year ago. I may try to record something. I'll have to take a bath and dress appropriately. For some reason, I feel if I ever reach the point I can play in public, a black tuxedo and bow tie seem appropriate. PHILIP
