I want to buy a theramin

I want to buy a theramin

Hi. I have not purchased one yet, but those of you who do play, how is
this one, the B3 at the top:

Does anyone own this one? Any feedback would be appreciated,
Jim

Jim,

From what I understand, the B3 is a bit small. In theremins, size --
or at least length -- matters. In particular, it's the distance between
the pitch rod and the volume antenna. If they are too close together,
they will interfere with each other, limiting the playability of the
instrument.

On the other hand, Thomas Grillo plays one on occasion, and he manages
some pretty decent precision out of it.

Personally, I would recommend something larger. The Moog Etherwave
(MSRP $399) is the typical entry level theremin. The Kees Enkelaar
theremin (MSRP <$200) is also highly regarded as an entry level instrument.

Tom Farrell has assembled this page summarizing most of the known
production theremins of recent times, including links to YouTube videos.
  You may find it helpful.

I recommend the Etherwave Theremin that has been
faithful and true to me for six years. Though it can
be tough to play near the top octaves, it is in
general a very user friendly instrument.
