Amp

Amp

Seems like a nice amp, but doesn't do so well on the extreme low end
due to the speaker only being 10" in diameter. The 60 Hz channel on the
equalizer helped me track down some hum. Looks like I have some
filament hum leakage as Mark may have suggested.

But hey, I can lift this thing with one hand!!!

An amp you can transport easily is worth it's weight in gold. I have a
Roland 100 (I got it in 1998 I think), which I decided on because I could
carry it unassisted and it fit in the trunk of my car. Everyone wanted me to
get a larger amp. Not an aesthetic decision at all, except the Roland was
the best and most versatile amp I could afford.

Yep. The same goes in the astronomy world. I hardly use my 8" reflector
as its a "gut buster" (Kevin is an astro-geek too and understands).

I refer to this somewhere on my website as the "hernia factor".

I've also just purchased the domain name http://www.neidlinger.us as
well. I'll need to revamp the lead page somewhat.

I've been using a 9" Roland keyboard amp,
great sound and good if I have to run my own play back tracks.
But it's a big heavy back killer, am keeping an eye on what you all get.

Congrats on the domain name Philip,
we need up update your links at ThereminWorld too.

I'm really a "beginner" astro-geek. I had a 2.5" reflector when I was
a kid and enjoyed stargazing with it. When the telescope broke (after
ten years) I always wanted another one but never got around to it
until last fall.

Indeed, the telescope, tripod, and peripherals are awkward and a
little bit heavy. (I got an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain (reflector)
telescope). The real issue is time -- when I decide to star gaze that
ties up the whole evening and spare time has been at a premium as of
late.

One of my quips is that in my next life I'll play the harmonica. (I
think about this while I'm schlepping my PA system.)

What drives me is that I have a particular "sound environment" in my
head and I seek to create a reality out of my ideas. This has proven
to be challenging and the logistics/planning are often more difficult
than the performance itself.

I will check out your website. I have not updated mine for a while.

Over the last year a number of challenges have surfaced that have
demanded time away from music-making activities (yaknow -- "real life"
stuff).

I've managed to keep on making music however I am off-track on a cd,
my website/myspace is languishing, and feel as though I'm hanging on
by my fingernails. (** violin playing the in background **) :)

The Ethermusic festival was a great experience -- at just the right
time, too -- for it helped me to retain a sense of optimism. I
received much encouragement to continue on my
theremin-performing/composing path. I also had the opportunity to
support others. To provide support from the piano was as personally
fulfilling as was my solo set.

To accompany Lydia was extraordinary -- she is an intuitive musician.
How would I describe the experience of accompanying Lydia? Kind of
like a dance that ended too soon.

Philip was (as he always has been) very supportive and it was really
great to meet him in person.

There are still LOTS of folks that I hope to meet in person that I
only know through the online world. These include: Vic Lundy, David
V, John H., Robbie V, Masami Takeuchi, Wilco B., Susi Hypnotique,
Gordon, Alex -- and those are just a few and as soon as I hit <enter>
I will undoubtably think of other names I left out.

To hear thereminists perform in person is simply better than to hear
recordings. Recordings just don't capture everything -- the theremin
has a wide dynamic range that often must be compressed in recordings.

To meet thereminists in person is a lot of fun. At Ethermusic, I had
a feeling of "belonging" that I don't often experience elsewhere.

OK -- time for me to hit <send>... more ramblings and maybe some
useful info later...
