Is that your Tvox theremin? I know that you play an Epro but didn't
know about the Tvox.

Hi Kevin, yes I now have three theremins - a T-vox tour, Etherwave Pro and
a 'matryiomin' (a mini pitch only theremin in shape of a Russian doll)
given to me by the wonderful guru Masami Takeuchi. The Etherwave Pro is my
instrument of choice for gigs/live because it's so light, easy and portable
- just a few pounds in weight which is great given the baggage restrictions
on the cheap airlines, and travel by train. I have, I think, one of the
only t-vox's in Europe - I bought this from Wavefront in 2004, it was
supposed to be for USA market, but no one wanted it (don't think it was too
well promoted, and this was before the Etherwave Pro took off), so I guess
there are no T-vox tour's in America.... 150 were made by Lydia's husband -
most were destined for Japan (thus the space age look?). She said they may
make some again in the future, but only if they can get a big enough order
in. It's not as 'phat' sounding or diverse as the Etherwave Pro, but it's a
very solid instrument with a wonderful modern, clean sound. I use the Pro
more for home recordings and local things or 'stage' stuff like TV to get
the right look.

I used to have a homemade two antennae instrument (my first theremin XXX) my
brother made me, but it broke quite quickly. Then an Etherwave, which I
sold on to a pupil (a schoolboy). I played an Etherwave (standard) lately -
I can't believe how hard it is when you're used to a better instrument, but
I'm glad I started learning on it, it's a good discipline to play classical
and complex music on the equivalent of a yamaha violin or plastic saxophone
- it teaches patience and discipline! I don't think new players realise how
tough it was to learn theremin in the days before Dr Moog...
