Hello everyone,

The S1000 that I have has a broken back light but I'm hoping to get an EL-Foil from midi-rakete in Germany.

You will ...

I think there is only 1047040 KB of memory (1 meg roughly).

That´s weird because minimum RAM in a S-1000 is 1 megaword=2megabyte.
There were and are no smaller cards available,- only larger ones w/ 8meg.

Wouldn't mind expanding the onboard memory.

You should !

Not sure what OS is in the ROM (probably v1.0 but I'm not exactly sure how to tell) but I've downloaded the latest OS (v4.40) and manual from AKAI. I just have to get back my USB floppy drive that I lent to a buddy for his Kurz K2000 so I can load the new OS via floppy.

No. You have to create a OS disk 1st which is only possible w/ older Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Win2k.

There´s a application for this and if IIRR it´s called "Make Disk" (or similar)
It must be a 720k DOS formattet floppy disk !
Not possible w/ WinXP or higher.

The S1000 has a 50-pin SCSI connection in the rear and I would dearly like to integrate it with my PC via a PCI SCSI card; however, I'm not sure if I can link it directly.

I don´t know what you mean w/ "integrate it w/ my PC", but:

If you use a SCSI controller card in you PC, be aware there will be no Centronics SCSI 50 connection but 50-pin SCSI MINI.
So, you´d need a cable,- SCSI MINI 50 > Centronics 50.
In addition, your PC, Windows and most apps cannot recognize a S-1000,- you´d need a Windows compatible application.

A SCSI controller card,- I have a Adaptec w/ SCSI MINI 50 for Win 2K OS which runs fine under WinXP too,- is for storage only.
You´re able to transfer data from S-1000 memory or connected SCSI devices to a harddrive or other media drive connected to the internal SCSI connection of the controller card,- means, inside the PC, there has to be a SCSI device connected to the controller card !
You cannot use the IDE or SATA drives at all.

Any other communication between S-1000 and an application being able to recognize S-1000 would be over MIDI,- also your PC needs a MIDI Interface too.

It would be spectacular if I could integrate it directly and not have to get a SCSI HDD (I don't mind creating a separate partition with my existing non-SCSI HDDs strictly for the S1000 but I don't think this is possible).

Impossible,- see above.

I'm really excited to use the S1000 -- I've heard so much about them in various interviews and other forums. I look forward to digging into the archives and try to find an answer to my questions.

If you need memory cards, drop mea line.
Can be I have 1 or 2 left over here,- I own 4 AKAI samplers.

Cheers,
Joey.
