Introduction

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this group. I've DJ'ed for over 10 years and I have just recently gotten really serious about production within the past year.

A friend of mine, gave me his old S1000 for helping him re-route and connect his studio up (he has an S950 that he currently uses). The S1000 that I have has a broken back light but I'm hoping to get an EL-Foil from midi-rakete in Germany. I think there is only 1047040 KB of memory (1 meg roughly). Wouldn't mind expanding the onboard memory. Not sure what OS is in the ROM (probably v1.0 but I'm not exactly sure how to tell) but I've downloaded the latest OS (v4.40) and manual from AKAI. I just have to get back my USB floppy drive that I lent to a buddy for his Kurz K2000 so I can load the new OS via floppy. The S1000 has a 50-pin SCSI connection in the rear and I would dearly like to integrate it with my PC via a PCI SCSI card; however, I'm not sure if I can link it directly. It would be spectacular if I could integrate it directly and not have to get a SCSI HDD (I don't mind creating a separate partition with my existing non-SCSI HDDs strictly for the S1000 but I don't think this is possible).

I'm really excited to use the S1000 -- I've heard so much about them in various interviews and other forums. I look forward to digging into the archives and try to find an answer to my questions.

Cheers,
Joey.
