i have a cheap workflow using linux with my S1000hd.

i have a usb zip drive attatched to my computer and a scsi zip on the S1000.

i use linux akaitools to write samples to the zip drive

i chop on the computer with Shuriken beatslicer for linux.

the only things missing are that i have to manualy create programs on the akai and that akaitools only writes s3000 samples.

this is no problem though because the last S1000 os reads S3000 samples.

getting it all to work wasn't exactly easy, but i don't need to use an old windows laptop.

akaitools would work directly via scsi but usb scsi cards are really expensive.

anyway i don't hear many people using linux with akai samplers out there so i thought i'd remind everybody that the tools mostly exist.
if there were more of us then we could probably get the shuriken author to add S1k/S3k program/program export.

I guess its to do with the S1000/s1100 not liking drives bigger than 1024mb.

S1000 and S1100 HDD size limit is 500MB !!!

... they sound a little cardboardy ( I know what I mean :) , sort of flat and lifeless in comparison to the S1100.

S1100 is the only AKAI sampler coming w/ dedicated Burr-Brown converters for each single output incl. the main out,- all the other AKAI samplers multiplex.

IMO, S1100 is the best sounding AKAI sampler.
