Yep, the main prob is:
There are NO service manuals in the web or available for free for S-1000 and S-1100.
Believe me, I´m looking for years and I know people who have one but don´t do copys !
The service who owns the manual wasn´t able to find a fault of my 2nd S-1100 because "it´s not a standard error" ...
Other techs cannot work on my S-1100 because they have no service manual ...
I had the impression, the pro-service wanted my machine for parts because parts for S-1000/ S-1100 are very rare now or impossible to find.
In your case, I´d try to find more memory expansions 1st to swap ´em inside the machine.
Did you place the 2meg card in the very 1st slot and the 8meg card in the 2nd one ? ( because that´ the order it has to be)
Are the jumper-bridges re-soldered for use of 8meg cards in a S-1000 at the bottom of you mainboard ? (S-1000 isn´t designed for usage of 8meg cards)
Are you sure the 8meg card isn´t damaged ?

Does Anybody know, what Damage this be, and how i can repair this?
I'm an Hobby Electronic Freak since 25 Years, and Specialist for Computer and Network, so i Think, i can repair this, if it no so great Problem. ;-) But i don't have an Service Manual, Schematic Diagram ore Special Tools an Measuring Instruments to find the Error.
