1 byte is 8bits and 1 word is 16bits and the S-series samplers are 16bit samplers,- means: 1 mega word is two mega-bytes.
Watch your display carefully,- it says mega words !
So,- 2 mega words are 4 MB and 4 mega words are 8MB
If your display reads 5 mega words, there are 10MB recognized in real !
Tech info about installation of memory boards in the S-1000 / S-1100 is here,- incl. re-soldering of the mainboard for usage of 2meg cards only or combos of 2meg cards and 8meg cards as well as usage of 8meg cards only ...

Software upgrades and manuals ( not service manuals unfortunally) for your S-series Sampler here ...

hope that helps

Thank's for the fast Answer,
i put all Card's, incl. an MuTec SCSI, out and tested all alone.
With the Original 2Meg Card in the very first Slot it Displays 1Mb free Memory, and with the 8Meg in the first only 4. And the 2Meg in the first and the 8Meg in the second Slot say's 5MWord free. :-(
I don't know if the Jumpers re-soldered, because i don't have put the Mainboard out. But the previsous Owner says, it has Work with 10Meg before. Once a Day after Turn on the Unit, it has Display the Half of the Memory.
