Analogue-sequencer

Finally finished building today (still waiting for the panel from a 
friend but that's another story!), switched on and... lots of 
flashing lights etc, display a bit garbled but life! 
When I switched on with func+page I was getting "checksum=F91E"
but when I pressed F1 to boot I still got the garbled screen.. it 
seemed to run/stop quite happily. I figured (rightly or wrongly) I 
could send the latest OS and it would sort it out.
After struggling with midi-ox (I cant figure it out!) I used 
cakewalk to do the dump.. too fast it seems as I got the "BAD DATA!"
message. I then tried to send it from Logic (much slower) but now  
when I switch on with func+page I get "CHK FAIL=FAE1". Sometimes I 
get "boot    flash", so I press F3 - the screen goes blank, I send 
the sysex (should I be seeing anything here?) and nothing happens 
till I press stop and rewind when I get "BAD DATA!" again.
I hope error FAE1 doesn't stand for F***ed And Expired 1  :-(
In a word... HELP!
Any idea what's going on?
